Did we just drop a 1 ton bomb on Falluja just now?!

Buddy of mine at work here has a radio and said he heard it on some news station. I checked CNN, didnt see anything. WTF is going on over there?

Sad - 2 Marines died when their bulldozer rolled into a river 🙁 I would have expected the casualties to come from the fighting. Also it speaks pretty badly about the M16 when all the pictures show the military guys holding AK47's

This just goes to show you what a couple (hundred) hours of CS will do to you.

FYI, a 2,000 pound bomb is not particularly newsworthy. Undoubtedly big and deadly, but nothing out of the ordinary for aerial ordinance. Yes, dropping one of them inside a city would be done to destroy a building, and be accompanied by notable collateral damage, but it is nothing to get excited over.

Now, if it is dropping on you, that should be newsworthy. If you want to debate the entire charade (if you will) going on over there, feel free. But a one-ton bomb is a relatively minor thing to be getting excited about. That's it.

Oh, there are some excellent resources online about bombs, rockets, munitions, etc. If you're interested, let me know.

And if you are thinking of one-X as something big, perhaps you are thinking of a 'one megaton bomb', e.g. nuclear weapons. Now THAT would be newsworthy.

Peace.

Mixing in the oppositions weapons with your own is common in close combat because each weapon has a very distinct sound and you can confuse them that way.

And Passions is right, a 2000 pounder isn't a big deal.

I find it a bit ironic that you end that post with "peace".

This is a war to bring peace to the Iraqi people. Nothing ironic about it.

...and money into the pockets of the CEOs of Haliberton. 😛

In all seriousness though, I do hope things work out well. I just hope that Bush doesn't go through with trying to force democracy on them so quickly. Democracy just doesn't work for some countries, and having them rush into it isn't a great idea.

Al Queda, Syrians, Iranians, etc, in Falluja = Bad.

Iraqi people wanting to live normal life = Good.

Marines are taking out bad guys. Simple as that. No conspiracy theories please.

You are confused. Look closely. The ones with the AK's are ING guys. Thier equipment may look similar to US gear, but it is ING. The Marines have M4's and M16's.

"they had a lot of combat footage on the local news. they've got everything going in there. I saw Cobras giving close air suppport, mortars, M1-A1s, infantry combat. Looks crazy"
