Did we just drop a 1 ton bomb on Falluja just now?!

1 ton bomb = small bomb. Compare that to 10,000 or 20,000 lb bunker busting bombs...

FYI, a 2,000 pound bomb is not particularly newsworthy. Undoubtedly big and deadly, but nothing out of the ordinary for aerial ordinance. Yes, dropping one of them inside a city would be done to destroy a building, and be accompanied by notable collateral damage, but it is nothing to get excited over.

Now, if it is dropping on you, that should be newsworthy. If you want to debate the entire charade (if you will) going on over there, feel free. But a one-ton bomb is a relatively minor thing to be getting excited about. That's it.

Oh, there are some excellent resources online about bombs, rockets, munitions, etc. If you're interested, let me know.

And if you are thinking of one-X as something big, perhaps you are thinking of a 'one megaton bomb', e.g. nuclear weapons. Now THAT would be newsworthy.

Peace.

I find it a bit ironic that you end that post with "peace".

This is a war to bring peace to the Iraqi people. Nothing ironic about it.

Where has your brain gone? It's perfectly fine if you support the war or not, but...at least, admit the truth.

Sad - 2 Marines died when their bulldozer rolled into a river 🙁 I would have expected the casualties to come from the fighting. Also it speaks pretty badly about the M16 when all the pictures show the military guys holding AK47's

Mixing in the oppositions weapons with your own is common in close combat because each weapon has a very distinct sound and you can confuse them that way.

And Passions is right, a 2000 pounder isn't a big deal.

You are confused. Look closely. The ones with the AK's are ING guys. Thier equipment may look similar to US gear, but it is ING. The Marines have M4's and M16's.

I didn't look at the article/pictures, just going off what Raging says. My comments still stand however.

You know, those pictures did kinda look like ING. All the ones off of Yahoo are clearly marked "US troops" and not Iraqi National Guard though. My bad.

Fair enough...but please think a bit when you say a 2000 lb bomb isn't a big deal. Any bomb is a big deal when it is coming down on you. I have seen 2 500lb bombs dropped on mortar pits almost a mile away blow out all the windows in a building and severely injure soldiers due to flying glass so don't be so cavalier about death and destruction.

I thought you neocons decided around here somewhere that "yahoo" (aka: reuters and AP) were too liberal to be trusted 😉

I'd look for the link, but I've already made my point 🙂

Not trying to make light of the destructive power of a 2000 lb bomb, but in the grand scheme of things they aren't a rarity in warfare. US planes regularly drop them.

I read Yahoo for the quick news updates, that's about it 🙂 The "factual" information I could care less about, I'll go with Fox News for my "facts" 😉

sh!t, the P-47 thunderbolt could care 2500 pounds of bombs in world war 2. Its not that big of a deal. The Ruskies had a 5000kg bomb, a real big boy, thats what, 11000 pounds? Yeah, and modern stuff carries a gigantic amount compared to those old school birdies. 1 ton is nothing.

edited,.

Wow, somehow I snuck a non-modified s-h-i-t throught he filter. Didn't want to get in trouble so I added teh exclamation mark.

Isn't it supposed to be blocked?

Nukes are in the megatons, are they not?

Kilotons and Megatons. Regardless, you don't wanna be around when either go off.

1Megaton bomb=at 10 miles, glass is blown out, weak building might have damage
10 megaton bomb=at 10 miles, buildings are blown down
30 megaton bomb=Terrain is glass for about 20 miles.
