no when i was in middle school computers were not everywhere and they were expensive

my freshmen year i think we installed win 3.1 on the computer we had this was like 1996

i didnt build my first comp till 2001/2001

I wasted hours on the NES and SNES until I hit junior high. Then I spent the next decade+ on getting ass, having fun with my friends, and living... NOT working on computers. Once I got married and settled down, ONLY THEN did I consider video games again or computers as a hobby.

Let's see, I was in a band (which coincidentally helped with getting ass), ran track, played baseball (again, ass)... still managed decent grades. Wouldn't trade those years for anything in the world, and the bonus is that I shared them with my current wife, even though we never dated during that time, so we have a very long common history.

God... if only I gamed more, though, right? Sorry I hit such a sore spot with you though. Do locker rooms freak you out by any chance?

I've never had a problem managing an active social life while still wasting a couple hours with a video game on a boring night after work or tinkering away on a computer some random afternoon.

Yes. Built my first computer around 14 or 15. I can't recall specifically. It would have been earlier if I had the money.

For teenage boys with testosterone levels spiking out of the stratosphere, it's not a matter of "either/or"... it's just not a priority. There are too many other appealing options. Girls, sports, friends, music... that's what I cared about. That's what my friends cared about. Granted, gaming wasn't as socially acceptable then as it might be now, but even if it was, it would have been at the bottom of my list of priorities. There are too many other hobbies and things to experience as a budding young man. Gaming will always be there; all of the other stuff won't.

Honestly, I still have a hard time spending more than a few hours/week playing games, and I'm 34 years old. Sure, they're fun and can be somewhat engaging, but even as a husband and father, whatever free time I can still call mine I'd rather spend exercising, laughing with friends, and living life. Sure, we're all entitled to our own choices, but gaming is NOT living life... it's a time-passer.

I appreciate that this is largely just my opinion, not fact, but I don't believe for one second that anyone looked back on any period of their life and wished they had spent more time in front of a computer. No. Fucking. Way.

My first "girlfriend" was at the age of 5 or 6 which was back in '83. I was just excited that her parents let us play on the Atari. I was friends with her until I was 12 or so when I got an official "girlfriend". I built my first computer after I started dating my ex-wife which is right around the time I joined this forum.
