There should be another poll asking how many still don't have a g/f after building their computer first.

No, I couldn't afford to build an IBM System/370 when I was 13.

nope.

I started dating when I was in high school; I didn't build my first computer until my junior year of college.

Wow... OP's question makes me sad for our youth.

I wasted hours on the NES and SNES until I hit junior high. Then I spent the next decade+ on getting ass, having fun with my friends, and living... NOT working on computers. Once I got married and settled down, ONLY THEN did I consider video games again or computers as a hobby.

idk, the idea that chasing ass was such an all-consuming task in your life for 10+ years that you had no room for any other hobbies/activities makes me kinda sad.

Yeah, getting laid and partying was just awful. Think of all the gaming I missed out on

I'm 48. I would be one hell of a loser if the answer was yes. Since I am not like the normal little boys around here the answer is absolutely not.
No but I bet you had a pet pig before you had your first girlfriend unless you count that as your first girlfriend.

nonstop for 10+ years with literally 0 free time to do anything else? it does sound kinda awful.

Maybe you should learn to read and comprehend. I said I didn't have time for gaming/computers; when or where did I say I had time for nothing else? Let's see, I was in a band (which coincidentally helped with getting ass), ran track, played baseball (again, ass)... still managed decent grades. Wouldn't trade those years for anything in the world, and the bonus is that I shared them with my current wife, even though we never dated during that time, so we have a very long common history.

God... if only I gamed more, though, right? Sorry I hit such a sore spot with you though. Do locker rooms freak you out by any chance?

Now, don't be an idiot and continue assuming anything. I see you're interested in what you missed out on, so just ask buddy :p

you seemed to imply that it's an either/or choice.

I've never had a problem managing an active social life while still wasting a couple hours with a video game on a boring night after work or tinkering away on a computer some random afternoon.

Yes. Built my first computer around 14 or 15. I can't recall specifically. It would have been earlier if I had the money.

Your answer will be the same 20 years from now too.

The poll results here are really sad.

I implied nothing nothing of the sort, other than the fact that gaming wasn't even remotely on my radar. You just overreacted (rather defensively) to my comment, that's all.

For teenage boys with testosterone levels spiking out of the stratosphere, it's not a matter of "either/or"... it's just not a priority. There are too many other appealing options. Girls, sports, friends, music... that's what I cared about. That's what my friends cared about. Granted, gaming wasn't as socially acceptable then as it might be now, but even if it was, it would have been at the bottom of my list of priorities. There are too many other hobbies and things to experience as a budding young man. Gaming will always be there; all of the other stuff won't.

Honestly, I still have a hard time spending more than a few hours/week playing games, and I'm 34 years old. Sure, they're fun and can be somewhat engaging, but even as a husband and father, whatever free time I can still call mine I'd rather spend exercising, laughing with friends, and living life. Sure, we're all entitled to our own choices, but gaming is NOT living life... it's a time-passer.

I appreciate that this is largely just my opinion, not fact, but I don't believe for one second that anyone looked back on any period of their life and wished they had spent more time in front of a computer. No. Fucking. Way.

well, when you start off saying that you pity anyone who's such a loser that they have time in their life to build a computer ;)

maybe it's a generational thing... I had a date the other week that involved playing Left 4 Dead 2 followed by taking a drive down to the beach.

I built my first computer at 10. I didn't even know what a girl was yet.

My first "girlfriend" was at the age of 5 or 6 which was back in '83. I was just excited that her parents let us play on the Atari. I was friends with her until I was 12 or so when I got an official "girlfriend". I built my first computer after I started dating my ex-wife which is right around the time I joined this forum.

Apparently the only way you can formulate an argument or response is by putting words in my mouth, so whatever kid ;)

yeah, but it had nothing to do with priorities. and you should probably define what you consider a gf to be. of course i know this is flame/troll bait so i dont know why i even try.

Your post implied they were mutually exclusive, whether you want to admit it or not.

Didn't build my first computer from scratch until sophomore year in college, so I had a g/f before building my first computer.
