Did those gold dollar coins get phased out or something?

Did they? There were vending machines that even spit them back as change, how come I haven't seen em circulating or anything? One time I was with a buddy from my tennis team getting Splurpees at 7-11 and the guy gave my friend a buffalo nickel as part of his change!

The new dollar coins got phased out because no one wanted them. I think it was mainly the strippers who complaind.

I thought it was the people who frequented strip joints who complained, cuz they couldn't fold 'em in half and have the girls pick them up with their ti... n/m.

When I first moved here, I realized I needed Cascade and Dawn, and there was a dollar general right across the street from where I had to drop off the uhaul. I bought them both there, paid with a 10, and got back 3 ones, a dollar coin, and some change. The cashier made a special effort to point out the dollar coin so I knew I wasn't getting shafted 🙂.

That is the first I've seen them since the day WalMart started giving them out and I got an uncirculated one for my Grandfather, who collected coins. That was about 3 years ago now.

I went to a strip club and one of the girls had a change machine hanging off of her G-string. 😀

lol it was all about the USA trying to follow Canada because they got those $1.50 coins. I like them a lot.

A friend of mine who was in the Navy said the girls in some of the asian ports didn't need a machine to dispense change. They stored it somewhere else.

Ewww. Betcha the bank tellers loved that.

The coins aren't phased out, just not commonly in circulation. I've gotten a few back as change in the past year. Back home in OH most of the new vending machines take the dollar coins.

Some machines here give them out as change. Stamp machines, NYC subway pass machines, etc...

But I find them more annoying than anything. Way to similar to the quarter.

No wonder all the US dollar bills have traces of CRACK in them. 😉

I got dozens of them for change in the post office. Each time I bought some stamps at the machine I got dollar coins back. Has been a while since I tried that though.

i dont know if they're phased out, but i think a reason you dont see too many in circulation is because alot of people kept them as collector items..

When they first started circulating them, i got like $7-8 worth of them at walmart as my change..

I've never gotten one as change. I do have one of those $25 rolls that Wal-Mart wasn't supposed to be selling to people though. It's a collector's item worth $25. 😉

I went to my bank and got 3 rolls of 25 gold dollars. I still have them except that I lost one in my friends car =(

i dont see em being circulated much, but the subway machines here in nyc give them back as change....

and they are not similar to the quarter....its heavier, a little thicker, and a lil bigger

I'm lookin' at twelve of them right now, that I got from the vending machine at the Post Office.
They look new. I wonder if I shoud hoard them?

Maybe in ten years they'll be worth four quarters each!

Remember boys and girls to always wash your hands after handling change!!!!

Back when they started redesigning the $5 and such, I overheard a woman in McDonald's telling her companion that she was going to save the new one b/c it would be worth money someday. Imagine that.

Nice. 😉

And, too bad it won't be worth more than $5 in her lifetime!
