Sounds like my current situation thanks to a lightning strike. Monitor kind of works still, but there's major fringing artifacts and red horizontal lines that trail any white pixels onscreen. Bizarre. Unusable now.
Also there's no longer video signal output from the onboard graphics (no video card).
When powered on, the monitor just displays the standard "No signal detected" message when connected to the pc, after the manufacturer logo splash screen. It's only when I connect it to a working pc that I can see how ruined the display is - and the symptoms I just described above.
The mouse shocked my hand when the surge struck. The DSL modem went "POP" and ejected some fragments of blown up electrical components. The smell of roasted electronic parts filled the air. Also our incoming water line just outside was ruptured, cutting off all water to the house.
The pc still boots though, if the lights and sounds are any indication. BUT it did spontaneously reboot itself though after booting, and ran a scan (it appeared from hard drive activity LED), so there might be some instability from ... corrupted hard drive?
