Did Mitsubishi give up on US consumer auto market?

I remember mere 7-8 years ago, Eclipse was all the rage. It was commonly seen. Then a trail of Lancer saw some exposure too as the hip alternative to Corolla & Civic.

Now I don't remember seeing a single Mitsubishi car in public in last 24 months. I don't even see their ads on anywhere. Did they just give up?

What the hell is their bread & butter sedan doing (lol Galant?) while Accord/Camry/Altima/Sonata/6 are making bank?

It's a BIG void and a sudden stark disappearance. Did I miss a news of them pulling out?

They started making shitty cars, even worse than Toyota.

For some reason I regularly see the Mitsubishi Outlander/ASX and the Lancer here. D:

The Evo is one of the hottest affordable cars of last year.

Where is it?

lol, I looked up Galant 2012. It HASN'T BEEN redesigned since 2004. Look at the pics LOL, looks so outdated.

They've discontinued Eclipse last year, as with Galant. WTF? What are their corp office & factory workers doing every day?

They were in pretty bad shape a while ago. I haven't heard much about them since. Last vehicle of theirs to get much publicity was the iMiev and that thing is like a 4 door electric Smart car (which is to say, overpriced for what you get).

I believe Mitsubishi imports most of their cars to the US which would explain the reduced presence here the last couple of years (stuff like the tsunami last year, the major floods, and then the currency issues).

The Evo Lancer along with the Impreza WRX STI are some of the best performing cars in the $35-45k range. Although I must say Mitsubishi isn't advertising in the states as much as they were in '07-'09

They're built right here in Illonois. And looks like they're game over in US.

I bought one of these almost new:

I still think it was the best looking Galant they ever made. It went downhill from there.

I own a 2004 galant(the first of the newer style). I've owned it for 4 years now without any issue at all really. It was a good car in 2004 but they are essentially selling the same car still in 2012. For some reason they completely gave up on the Galant. Which is odd considering the last few generations of galants seemed extremely popular. I still see them everywhere.

I heard the Evo X is being discontinued in 2013, too.

From what I had heard they were looking at using electric engines in tandem with the regular Evo engine as a kind of electric "turbo". Making it more environmentally friendly (their current mission statement) and still a solid performer.

They've started chasing enviromentally friendly ideas, so the Evo is going to get screwed.

The Eclipse was discontinued from poor sales - but the poor sales largely stemmed from a bloated follow-up to the successful Eclipse you still see on the roads. Underpowered, oversized, poor handling, just an all around failure.

The Galant fell behind the other mid-sizes, and Mitsu isn't big enough or didn't care enough to try to keep up anymore.

Now they're pushing their AWD crossovers, at least in my area, but Subaru is going to crush them on that score.

Here is the 2013

They're downsizing. Instead of making many shitty cars, they wanted to focus on a few specific vehicles and get them better. A friend just got a 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander so they're still out there.

I am still rather fond of the Lancer Evolution X. So, I hope they don't give up!

I like the older Eclipse models (first and second generation), but I could never get into the third or fourth generations. They removed the fun 4G63T, and gave us a weak V6 that made the same horsepower. 😵

As much as it could be a maintenance nightmare, I liked my Talon TSi AWD!

I heard they are discontinuing the Evo which IMO is their best car by far. Other than that I don't see any class leading platform in their line up.

I see Lancers everywhere. I don't think they have dealerships in every city. We have one near me though so it probably makes a difference.
