did i just commit cruelty to animals?

what should i have done with the spider?

  • left him to die in the fire

  • put him out of his misery beforehand

  • saved his little spider butt (comedy option)

i put a log in the woodstove and was about to shut the door when i noticed a spider on it.

the fire was just starting but i knew that in several minutes it would be roaring.

i had 3 options:

1. close the door, lock spider in to suffocate or be burned alive
2. smash spider, put him out of his misery before the fire could kill him
3. pick up spider lovingly and carry him to safety

i picked door #1. poor spidey 🙁

TL;DR: ATOT am i a monster?

I would have tried to save it ... but then I'm fond of spiders unlike most of ATOT.

Edit: And yes you're a monster regardless of which choice you had made.

I'm not sure an insect is technically an animal, but I guess it is alive, but I guess if there is one on my firewood I just treat like I would accidently stepping on an ant and just let him ddo his thing, if he gets out of their on his own more power to him i guess

2 and 1. It's the only way to be sure...

Since you didn't do the above the spider could have escaped and is plotting revenge. Now you must wear fang proof gloves and thoroughly inspect each piece of wood that you bring in the house.

I did the exact same thing just the other day. I didn't notice, but there was a kitten (my cat just had a litter of kittens) on a log that I put in the woodstove. Oops, too late.

The spider is the closest thing ATOT has to a mascot. So you just killed the ATOT mascot. Nicely done, jerk.🙁

I think you committed cruelty to the forum members for making this thread.
:awe:

You helped it's species by eliminating a member that chose poor places to sit. Now spiders will be infinitesimally less likely to sit on stove logs in the future.

Well, unless it reproduced before its demise. Next time OP goes to the wood pile, there will be 500 children ready to seek revenge for what the OP did to their mother.
