Yes, she was aware of the rules and boundaries set for her, and she has broken them on numerous occasions (By crying until an adult gave in). Namely:
One hour intarweb/night (The line she uses to dial-in is the voice line)
DO NOT FSCKING PUT PASSWORDS ANYWHERE EXCEPT YOUR MIND
No online games. Period.
No filling out forms - period.
One email account - period.
DO NOT SAVE SH!T TO THE DESKTOP
Do not abuse the Macintosh internal speaker by using it to play rap music. Your headphones are fine, but my speaker is not.

And what was in the envelope? A letter, some pictures of a little girl and a cute puppy and some magnets (wtf?)

Haha... those are some pretty dumb rules. Do you actually refer to yourself as "the Administrator?"

Negative. My brother does, though. And what's so dumb about them?
Excessive time spent on voice line = bad
Passwords stored in text file = for morons
Games = IMMENSE waste of time since it takes about an hour to load a flash game @ 33.6
Forms = Potential for disaster, seeing that 99.9999% of forms on teh intarweb sign you up for a pr0n list or spam or some other such nonsense
One email = For ease of monitoring
No desktop saving = That just pisses me off, other people use that computer
Rap music = suck

excessive time spent on the internet...? look whos talking mr. diamond member
pass words stored in text files ... stupid yes, wrong? hardly
games ... big deal, we all play them
forms ... she'll learn the hard way
no desktop saving ... tell her not to, or make a folder on the desktop for her to save things
rap music ... i'm sure she would say the same about the boy bands you listen to

settle the fvck down man, she's young obviously and dosen't realize how to use a computer properly. maybe if you or someone else took the time to teach her the proper ways to use one you wouldn't have to be such a damn nazi.

i fail to see the big deal about this envelope that came, ever stop to think that she made an online pen-pal to talk to? possible because she lives with: a) anal people b) nazies.

the girl sounds normal, your family sounds like it has some problems (atleast you do, if your dad is agreeing with what you say, then he probably does to) take the time to get to know the girl and treat her like you treat the rest of your siblings and you probably won't have any more problems.

I have suddenly realized how much freedom my parents gave me when I was younger. I need to thank them for letting me figure out some things in life on my own and not oppressing nearly me as much as they could have.
Yeah, I thought I had it rough until I read this thread.

Than she's gonna go and get double teamed on a boat.

Anyway you need to chill out. WTF is wrong with you man, going all overboard and than asking "Did I do the right thing?" while all you wanted was for everyone to agree with you. You don't even seem like you did anything wrong at all. You just want to keep being a nazi. You definately should get counseling.

He's 17 if I remember correctly. MacBaine had a pretty good synopsis of this guy.

17, huh?

Okay, I'll refrain from flaming him out of existence. But I think it's pretty sad that his parents let him deal with this problem; what, with all of life's experience he's had.

I believe I can speak for mostly everyone here, including you Eye, that we all thought we had everything figured out when we were teens. There's not a day that goes by that I'm not reminded that I don't and ever did.

She gave out her address.

No, let me repeat. SHE GAVE OUT HER ADDRESS.

As somebody who recently dealt with the fear that somebody from the internet had somehow got a hold of my address (and showed up at my then-residence stoned, looking for me), I want to point out that that is a BIG deal when you are vulnerable, like a child is.

Yes, not all people on the internet are creeps and pervs. I've given out my address before to people on AT that I have good reason to trust. However, I would never rely on a 5th grader to make that judgment call. No matter what else she did, she knew that giving out her address on the internet was wrong. She put herself in danger. She deserved discipline for that.

Did she deserve the discipline she got? Not really - restriction from the internet would have been sufficient, plus some other less related penalty probably. And she definitely doesn't deserve the attitude she's getting from her uncle. But HECK YEAH she deserved some sort of punishment for giving out her address without parental consent.
1. The child only in grade 5 therefore she bound to make mistake.
2. She never was told not to give out her address.
3. She asked the grand parents for the address.
4. She didn't flaunt her body all over the intarweb.
5. She didn't post her email address on any forums or register with any forums so perv can crosscheck her reference.
6. Most of the abuse/sexual abuse are from known suspect or family member.

"HECK YEAH" what kind of punishment should Nazi hick do to a chick whos full of herself & flaunt her body all over the intarweb?

dude, you are a freakin psycho, not allowing her to play music on YOUR speakers?? you sound like you need to flip your calender up to 2004, we arent the freakin amish anymore, an email address is not a priviledge, it is a neccessity in the present, as is being able to use a computer. Why dont you just unplug the internet when you arent using the computer, and if she wants to use the internet, plug it back in and watch her... i mean its not as if she is going to ruin her life by spending some time on the internet..... i agree with you that it is odd with all that pass saving and emails, so advise her to watch out for that kind of email stuff, and then tell her to write her passes on a piece of paper, i mean seriously, i cant remember half my passwords either, and she is less than a third my age.... i think that you really have to realize that you are dealing with a small child, and just give her a little guidance instead of treating her like a repeat serial killer

Is this a parody? cause if it isnt then you need to stop smoking crack. Oh and you need to get off of your high and mighty sh!t about being a network administrator. If you are so damn successfull then why do you act like being an administrator to your home network is such serious buisness. The girl is 5 and you are freaking out about nothing.

You sound like a frustrated 20 something. You totally f_cked up the situation. All this fifth grader knows is that you will completely blow any event out of proportion and punish her beyond reason.Have fun trying to get her to talk to you if she ever does need help. What happens when she goes to her friends house to use the internet....not going to let her go until she is 18 or follow her there and listen to the conversation...Man I would hate to have grown up in your family bunch of uptight a**'s.Oh and way to go on crippling her ability to do schoolwork. It will look will good that she is one of the few kids still turning reports in written in pencil.
