We have not been able to replicate the remarkable jump in intellect between primates and humans in a controlled scientific environment. There is no evidence that would make any credible scientist believe that we evolved from primates. There are theories that humans were once aliens that were stranded on this planet. It is possible that the original aliens that came to earth were much larger, and that evolution caused us to get smaller due to the supply of food, which explains the alarming number of giant-like humanoid skeletons that are being uncovered.

If you take A and take C, that does not prove B (the missing link that "proves" evolution". It could be that on earth there was only ever A, and C is an alien life form.
 
Yes. It was a plot where they colluded with the aliens in order to breed a subservient race of slave humans to both toil in the alien's off world Nahqadah mines while also keeping a weakened hominid race for the giants to use as cheap labor since they had higher caloric requirements. Unfortunately, the smaller hominids reproduced faster than even the alien geneticists could anticipate and they rebelled against their giant overseers using sheer numbers. The aliens, having enough stock to work their mines, abandoned Earth and the giant race went extinct.

Hasn't the average height of humans grown substantially over the years? Wouldn't a 7ft+ tall "freak" human be a giant when the average male was like 5'2?

This mostly has to due with food availability. If the theories are true and that aliens were stranded here, and they were "giants" then only the smallest survived due to the scarcity of food and their lack of equipment. Once aliens (humans) were able to rebuild the technology and establish civilization, we began to grow substantially.

I think it makes a lot of sense, how else do you explain our fascination with space? Maybe because we came from there.

Hominid fossils are extremely rare, so at least it would probably be silly to assume we know about all the variations that have existed.
