I chuckled. It's Family Guy. Although I imagine it would be pretty gruesome if some ex-Vietcong pulled that in real life. (think EBM on crack)

I suspect a literal interpretation would be incorrect ...

and that Charlie at the Memorial is a loose, random juxtaposition of the US WoT, and the occasional repugnant interactions we achieve with various cultures from around the world.

But WTF do I know? I'm just a redneck hillbilly from suthern Apple-Latch-E-Uh.

we could always overthrow a country's democracy and install a ruthless dictatorship, as long as the country has oil... you know, like iran. they might hate us for the rest of time, but as long as we make fun of their religion, it's all good in our minds.

You know, we should make a stand against this sort of humor! From now on I'm boycotting fox because of this! No More Fox News for me!

I'm boycotting Firefox as well, I'm sure they somehow have something to do with this too because they have FOX in their name.

Even if you weren't offended by it, I don't really see the humor in it? NVA had something like 1 million casualties to US 60k, not like they actually came out ahead. Maybe I'm missing something.

I don't think it can be any more offensive or toxic than all the other crap that comes through the idiot box.

They won't notice even if you get 10 million people to stop watching. If 10 million people called up the marketing department of their advertising sponsors with threats, they would likely yank the show permanently within a week.

First off: I am a veteran.
2nd: My father and several uncles are Vietnam veterans.

Need to say that before I say this.
If you cant take a joke, or stand someone making a political comment you dont like, then you truly dont get America and all those men died in vain. Soldiers fight to defend the constitution, and the most important thing that allows us to do is say things which are unpopular. Popular speech doesnt need protection.
If you didnt like the joke (which is totally understandable cuz in a truly free society people are going to piss each other off) then dont watch the show.

Seth McFarlan is not a bad or evil person or unamerican. He just doesnt fall into the bullshit blind patriotism that some other people do. And he chooses to express himself in a way that gets attention and promotes discussion, as is evident from the news article and this thread right here.

Usually the OP would be railing against the evils of PC. Now he wants to promote it.

The funniest part about this is the people butthurt over it.
This. The segment itself was stupid and not really funny. It doesn't even make sense when he says "Vietnam undefeated" since the Vietnam War was a civil war. South Vietnam lost the war against North Vietnam. The reason USA and Canada have so many Vietnamese immigrants is because their side of the country lost the war.

Freedom of speech will win. It's ok to be offended, but anyone trying to take Family Guy off the air because they are offended should be killed.

here is one for you, how about if the two guys were at the world trade center memorial and a muslim said "LOL its a scoreboard" wouldnt you find that tasteless and offensive? cartoon or not making jokes about that shit is just wrong.
But it's perfectly ok when Americans go to Muslims and say "LOL SCOREBOARD" over things like Iraq, right? How many times have we seen that shit against Germans? WE PWNED YOU GUYS IN WW2 LOLOLOL. Now you know how others feel when you say that kind of shit against them.
We have enough TV shows and movies and video games that make light of killing Germans. American soldiers are not immune to that same kind of insensitive and rude criticism. Freedom of speech sure is a bitch ain't it.

The bolded.

What? Why would we say "scoreboard" to the Iraqis? We're not over there killing them en masse in a real war, but instead targeting specific groups, not any force that even represents Iraq.

People make fun of the French, but I hardly ever hear anyone make fun of the Germans. Man for man across Europe they were the best of the best. the US did really well, but part of that is attributed to coming in fresh while the rest of Europe was beleaguered and Germany was picking a war on their other front.

That's the image Fox News likes to show, but it's far from the reality of it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casualties_of_the_Iraq_War
Lowest estimate of Iraqis killed: ~100,000
Lancet's estimate of Iraqis killed: over 600,000
Highest estimate of Iraqis killed: 1 million

To put that into a context you can understand, only 60,000 American soldiers died in the Vietnam War. About 37,000 Americans died during the Korean war. To the Iraqis, the current conflict is worse than Korea and Vietman combined. It's that bad.

People make fun of the French, but I hardly ever hear anyone make fun of the Germans.
Review of the game Wolfenstein:
http://www.popmatters.com/pm/post/110488-its-always-more-fun-killing-nazis/

The intriguing thing to me about this seemingly well timed reminder of who really deserves to “get it,” though, is in the distinct difference between what a film can provide in considering this experience and what a game provides, which might tell us a little something about how we see ourselves ethically as players of games as opposed to viewers of movies. As noted, Tarantino’s Nazi slaughter is voyeuristic in nature, but id’s is participatory; Tarantino’s is about witnessing the termination of the “master race,” while id offers the opportunity to take a hand in this extermination.

You tell it brother. It's not like the German soldiers were just regular people who were drafted into the military against their will. Oh wait a minute...
german-nazi-boy-soldiers-willi-huebner-second-world-war-ww2-amazing-pictures-photos-images-06.jpg

D:
As the Russians were advancing, they started drafting younger and younger people.

Fun story. My best friend's great grandfather was part of Germany's 6th army, the one that was to be sent to Stalingrad. He fled the country before being shipped out. Movies and video games glorify how great it is to kill people just like him, people who were drafted and wanted nothing to do with the war. Laughing about killing Germans has gone on for more than half a century and nobody seems to give a shit. Now a cartoon laughs at dead American soldiers, many of them drafted against their will, and suddenly it's the end of the world and he must be taken off the air. It's total bullshit.

If Family Guy was at any time funny, maybe...but that show is complete shit...always has been, always will be. South Park can make fun of whatever they want because they do it comedically.

butthurt over making fun or making light of the deaths of thousands of dead americans?

I don't care who you want to make fun of. If I don't like your humor I'm going to change the channel not bitch and moan about it. I like freedom of speech even if I don't like the speech that it is protecting. That being said the best jokes are typically the most offensive.

Hey OP and all those outraged -

A few years back, they cracked a joke about the bombing of Hiroshima. Did you post an outrage thread then?

I just saw the episode. I was thinking people were gonna be commenting about this one:

Peter: "Would you rather be treated for a life-threatening injury by a hispanic woman or get a massage from a gay guy?"
Quagmire: "Hispanic from Spain?"
Peter: "No not from Spain"
Quagmire: So your choice is to die or to get a massage from a gay guy?

What the hell does "go too far" even MEAN? It seems like a generic, meaningless phrase people use when they want to make something sound more important than "I was offended, and you should all care deeply about that fact". But honestly, in the context of something that we would have to elect to watch, something that's known to be offensive to everyone, what does the phrase really mean?
