heads up for HTC One owners in the US.

HTC currently has a promo giving away $25 Google Play credit for:

HTC One devices purchased and activated in the U.S. between 6/14/13 – 7/15/13

the kicker is, this apparently works even if you bought the One before June 14. I bought mine the second week of May and I received my code today. there are people reporting that they got it the first day it was released and also received their codes.

go get it! promo link is here

Thanks. Great timing. I turned in a 5 day old S4 to get a HTC One earlier this week.
Glad I made the switch. This phone wows me everyday.

This sure beats the heck out of a Kanye West freebee.

Hmm I have pretty much made my mind up to get an HTC One (in the near future - I just immigrated a couple of weeks ago), it will be through Sprint, but it has to go through a family plan that has an employee account/discount thing attached to it. I don't think I can take advantage of what Sid59 posts can I? Might have to just drop by Radioshack to figure it out otherwise. (Thanks though Sid!)

There are reports saying that people in Europe and India received their codes after submitting, but they needed to use the usual tricks (VPN, etc. you can google it) to switch their regions temporarily to US to redeem the code.

awesome! how long did it take to receive your code?

I received my code in 3 days after submitting (the fine print does say it could take 72 hours).

I played with the phone a bit more, did some tweaking here and there... and I'm at under 1% / hour idle on 3G (0.8% now). LOVE IT! :D

Well, disabling WiFi when there are no hotspots helped a bit. Then I use Backitude. Push email for Gmail app and the built in one for hotmail (push too). Weather every 30 minutes... screen brightness at 35-ish % (it's still very bright...). Disabled some location things with Google too (and Google Now is off). So not really anything fancy.

are you using LTE Qbah?

Nope. Poor signal for LTE here and it destroys the battery (I guess corrections and dropping to 3G and back to 4G kills it dead).

Plus LTE here is 30 down, 20 up. HSPA+ is 20/5 or something like that. Looks like a big difference, but not really. I read Flipboard, Facebook and YT mostly (the speakers are wicked!) - I don't really notice the speed difference in my normal usage. The pages do load up faster on LTE and stuff just happens faster - just not enough faster to get me to start worrying about battery life again.

Hmm I'll have to try this Backtitude app.

Well, no Play credit here.. been over a week since I submitted. Wasn't hopeful anyways.
