I watched the speech at the gym while I was doing cardio. Pretty powerful or at least it seemed that way after 8 years of watching some turkey who looked like a deer caught in the headlights when he stumbled through his speeches.

Couldn't be bothered, I find pomp generally uninteresting although Mrsskoorb says she liked it so maybe I would have. I was at work in any case, though.

About every four years a shitty politician makes an inauguration speech. What was the point? Skipped it.

I did not. Had to work. Unfortunately, so many at my company decided to stream the video of the inauguration to their desktops our single T-1 was hosed so I ended up going home to get my work done.

Waay too busy at work to bother... Just a big, expensive show... Waste of money that could be better spent...

Fortunately people can spend their money as they wish; not as you command. ;)

That was true before noon today, anyway.

Um, no it wasn't.

I was in a catch 22. If I stopped work to watch it, I would have been called out for it if something bad happened. Instead, I continued to work and after the address, the CEO comes in and wondered why our department wasn't out there watching... typical.

Some of us had to work to pay for all the shit this asshat is promising everyone.

Too bad you missed it; he was calling for sacrifice and national unity.
Last time I calculated, 63% of my income ends up in a tax coffer of one type or another. Isn't that enough?
I'd like to see that calculation.
Federal income tax + Retirement tax + medicaid tax + State income tax + city income tax + personal property tax + fuel tax + sales tax + federal excise tax + all the other little taxes on utility biils.

My Federal, State, and retirement/medicaid tax obligations alone exceed 50% of my income.

you're doing it wrong.

I thought you loony lefties called those "loopholes" and wanted them removed.

I only remember watching the ceremonies in 2001 and haven't really cared about them since. I'm more interested in what they do that actually affects my life and not the hundreds of meaningless speeches given each year.

Nope. I were in skool pecking away on a kalkulater...no time to watch such friviolities.

Obviously, I've seen bits and pieces of it in the news, and heard countless sound bites on the radio.

I'm disappointed that I missed Obama being handed the magic wand that those on the right are going to expect him to wield.

"What? He's been president for a week and he STILL doesn't have the economy fixed, STILL hasn't gotten Iraq under control, STILL hasn't gotten the deficit turned around? Typical Democrat...no change found."

Chief Justice John Roberts also misspoke as he administered the oath to Obama. Roberts asked Obama to ?execute the office of president to the United States faithfully,? rather than to ?faithfully execute the office of president of the United States? as dictated by the Constitution. The snafu caused Obama to halt mid-oath and grin before Roberts corrected himself.
Do they teach classes at your local community college on how to use Google?
I can usually Google just fine if I desire to do so. Obama could have cut off Roberts' head and shit down his neck and you'd be in here defending him, so I find your chastisement of me totally meaningless.

Here's a quote from your link above;

Obama asked Americans to ?set aside childish things? like partisanship and ideology, and adopt a spirit of service.

Good luck fulfilling his wish.

Did not have a chance to watch. Slammed @ work due to layoffs in our dept and another person out on medical leave. I'll catch it later online.

You should make less money to take advantage of the great tax brackets. :D

Based on the comments from conservatives in this thread, yeah pretty much.

I didn't watch it. I worked all day; it was 'Annual Planning/Strategy Meeting' day. Then I went to grad school for a couple of hours. Then I spent 45 minutes driving home. When I got home, I watched a DVR'ed episode of Family Guy, 1 Futurama, Bizarre Foods on Travel Channel "live", and then went to bed. It was pretty easy to NOT see it if you, you know, actually had things to DO.

Would that be the same magic wand the Dems think gets handed to a Republican when they take over the office? Face it, politics is politics and is played pretty much from the same script across the ideological spectrum.

And no, I didn't watch any of the coverage and for the record I have not watched any inauguration coverage since I was in high school and actually went to one since I live in the area and it was easy to get to.

I watched the ceremonies from about a half hour before the swearing-in, until the end of his speech. My law partner, a diehard Republican, was adamant that as many of us watch as possible, because the peaceful transfer of power in the US is something to treasure. This inauguration was obviously especially interesting due to the enormous crowds and the historic nature of electing our first non-white President. I really enjoyed it and thought Obama's speech was excellent (as did my numerous Republican colleagues).

I think the premise of this entire thread is, frankly, stupid. Obviously there are many people (perhaps even most Americans) who didn't watch the inauguration. The OP is no doubt particularly proud of not having watched this particular inauguration because he doesn't like Obama. I fail to see how putting party over patriotism is something to boast about, but to each his own. My own hope (and I think it's a realistic one given Obama's cabinet picks) is that the Obama presidency will help cure some of the bitter partisan rancor that has become the norm over the past 16 years.

Did not see any of it, as I was at work all day.

We have a TV in our break room here at work, but it's turned to ESPN, and noboby here was interested enough to turn it to one of the news networks.

Right with ya on that one.

It was after 10:00 at night and I was in bed. My bedroom doesn't have a DVR. I wasn't about to stay up in the living room since I have to wake up early what with a 2 hour commute round-trip, a 9 hour workday, and 2 hours of grad school each and every night. Like I said some of us have things to DO and setting aside time to watch a ceremony don't take a very high priority, no matter what it's for or who's involved.

It just sounds bizarre to claim you were too busy to watch one of the most historically significant events of our lifetime when you had time to watch 2 hours of TV, including an hour of DVR'ed programs. If you chose not to watch, hey, that's your prerogative, but it isn't because you were too busy.
