Did anyone convert an old hotmail to an @outlook.com?

firstname.lastname is what I did.

Don't try to outwit the dumb. firstname.lastname@gmail.com is exactly what I use.

It seems like it's mostly the old guys who have issues (I've seen their dating profiles and Facebook accounts), but the most recent was from someone younger (I think); Call of Duty ELITE signup.

I've got about a month of sappy, pathetic, poorly written love letters from some chick who didn't seem to understand that I'm not who she thinks I am.

Big girl. She sent pics.

my old school .edu email changed to outlook this past spring. I haven't been a student in over 3 years, but the basic email is still good.

For all of you who are taking the firstname@outlook.com addresses, you're going to hate your life. I took this type of address with my university email and with GMail. It reveals to me that there are too many dumb people allowed on the Internet; people who don't know their own email addresses.

I've got dummies trying over and over again to register for Facebook, signing up for dating Web sites, I get hotel reservations, crap about the kids softball league, real estate agents who are happy to have met me, Guitar Center managers thanking me for my visit, etc., etc., etc.

That is all.

Oh I know this too well. I have had <myusername>@gmail/live.com for years now and people consistently registered my email address for who knows what, or even gave the address to their colleagues/relatives. Not to mention people who tried to reset the password to the account, thinking the reason they couldn't login was because they simply forgot the password.

Today I registered <myusername>@outlook.com as well so I have no doubt more of the above will happen. Bring it on!

I grabbed all three with my preferred login, though, honestly, I am probably the only person in the world who would use it. I have the same login on the following:

@<mydomain>
@<myotherdomain>
@gmail.com
@yahoo.com
@aol.com
@alumni.<my college>.edu
@alumni.<my law school>.edu
@me.com
@hotmail.com
@outlook.com
@live.com
@excite.com
@cia.com

(Most of those just forward to my @<mydomain>, but I like having them.)

I tried for firstname @live.com and @outlook.com, but I was too late.

Not me. This still doesn't do conversations and labels the same way as Gmail. I simply can't go back.

Gmail has been fucking up my labels pretty bad over the past week or so. It might just be something my university did but labels aren't catching it.

The cool thing about outlook is that it will remove ads from the page if you have a person added as a contact and are reading an email from them. It gets converted into a message pane.

Got firstnamelastname@outlook and firstname.lastname@outlook. Finally get ride of that gross hotmail address at the same time once again beating those assholes who have the same name as me 😀

You mean "filters"?

It helps that I have a Polish last name with a healthy amount of consonants in a row 🙂

Anyway, the love letters could have been fun. You could have made an entire 4Chan thread with the replies!

Does anyone know how to switch from placing your old e-mail into a folder to going into your Inbox?

I already found my first dislike of the new Outlook.com... it doesn't seem to refresh automatically. :|

This x 1000

My Gmail address is FLastname@gmail.com. I often get emails that are not for me. Someone even created an iTunes account with my email address. I literally had access to his whole account.

I don't even want to imagine what it would be with firstname@gmail.com!!

Why don't you just buy a domain for $10/year and get your own custom email address that you can link with Gmail? I only give kag@mydomain.com to people, but in reality it is forwarded to my Gmail account. If I want to quit Gmail, I don't have to notify anyone.

So john.smith@outlook.com was a bad idea? It's the name I use when I check in to hotels.

Gear icon - More Mail Settings - Under Customizing Outlook there's 'Rules for sorting new messages'

Do you mean new emails? Because this works fine for me just like before.

Yeah, it appears that I've got a common old, white guy name... and when I say "old", I don't mean 35+. Like dudes as old as my dad... and that makes sense.

I don't use my domains for email because it's all like myname@imgonnakillyou.com and myname@japanesegirlsthrowingupineachothersmouths.com

Just doesn't seem appropriate.

I love the alias feature. I've always liked what MS did with hotmail and this is great too, no IMAP support though, only exchange.

Hmm that doesn't seem to work for me at home. Maybe something is bugged with my session? Hotmail would randomly check and Firefox would highlight the tab, but I have to manually click on the folder names now.

Yeah, if you are in the folder receiving the email, the browser tab (I use Chrome) will even indicate how many new emails were received. Other folders that received new emails are reflected on the sidebar/folder list.

I'm really digging the interface. I only have two email addresses, one for legitimate stuff (ISP email) and one for junk (gmail). I set up my ISP email on outlook.com last night and have already decided that I'm just going to ditch stand-alone Outlook. It's not a heavily used email anyway, plus it will be nice to have it web-based and use it from anywhere. My ISP already has webmail access but it's possibly the worst email interface I've ever used and they've not updated it in over 6 years.

I'm using Outlook.com but I don't think I'm going to change my address. I have too many accounts to juggle as it is. 1 Hotmail, 2 Gmail, 2 Yahoo, and 1 AOL. I only use the Hotmail and one of the Gmails regularly though. The other ones are mostly throw away accounts that I use when I'm signing up for trials or registering for crap and don't want to be bothered with the emails going to my main accounts.
