Did anyone convert an old hotmail to an @outlook.com?

I didn't see an option for a rename, although logging in my LiveID through outlook.com converted the look to this new one.

Wow this is crazy, not only you can get a new alias, you can also switch to @live.com, @hotmail.com, or @outlook.com as the address!

Goes in a folder labeled your old address

I mean you're giving up your old address. Won't you need to change all of your accounts that use your hotmail/live address to the new value?

I currently have FI_LastName at hotmail.com, but I really don't want that much information being privvy to people that get access to my Hotmail account... it's really more of a thing I'm willing to give out to forum registrations and such.

Yup. It is currently moving all my 21389273489723 emails to this new folder 😱

The old address still works and it will automatically filter that email to the new folder named after this old address.

I'm assuming that the old address still works as a login info for other Live services as well. I did this without thinking and for a split second after I was afraid that I just screwed up my XBox account. lol.

Oh, that's good to know. Some web services won't let you change your associated e-mail account, which means I'd have to scurry back and re-register my old e-mail address to avoid any weird situations! 😛

Yes, this was my concern as well.

Btw, I just tested sending an e-mail from my other account (which incidentally is the email address I registered facebook with) to the old @hotmail.com, and guess what, it arrived at the new account, moved correctly to the old address folder, but it shows up with my facebook profile picture as the sender. Wth is this sorcery!! 😱

I'll use what is more familiar to the rest of society so I don't have to repeat it or spell it when someone asks. That was always the problem with having my own domain name.

So right now - hotmail > outlook.

Hell before today I've never even heard of outlook.com. I'd look at someone who gave that to me as their address as if they had 3 eyes and wonder if they're confusing an email address at work they use outlook for.

EDIT>> oh and outlook.com doesn't seem to work with Opera.

Fuck, now when I go to hotmail.com it defaults to outlook.com ... thanks a lot!

EDIT2>> had to use this link which I grabbed from IE: https://col124.mail.live.com/default.aspx?moptout=true (optout)

Saw this on my LinkedIn news...kind of cool. I've always actually preferred Hotmail over Gmail...just everyone has been anti MS for ages. Hard stigma to get over.

I hated Hotmail's horribly cluttered interface. This is a MASSIVE improvement.

I also think it's another nail in the coffin for Yahoo Mail. Between Google's and Microsoft's ecosystems, I'm failing to see the appeal of Yahoo.

I tried this and switched to an outlook.com email, but now when I log in to WL Messenger I see all my old contacts but none appear online (and I don't appear online to them). Anyone else have this problem?

EDIT: Contacts starting spontaneously appearing online, maybe it just took some time to do whatever it needed to do.

The outlook interface has been the hotmail interface for a while but in a different font and color scheme.

For all of you who are taking the firstname@outlook.com addresses, you're going to hate your life. I took this type of address with my university email and with GMail. It reveals to me that there are too many dumb people allowed on the Internet; people who don't know their own email addresses.

I've got dummies trying over and over again to register for Facebook, signing up for dating Web sites, I get hotel reservations, crap about the kids softball league, real estate agents who are happy to have met me, Guitar Center managers thanking me for my visit, etc., etc., etc.

That is all.

firstname.lastname is what I did.

Got firstnamelastname@outlook.com this morning not realizing you could convert a hotmail account so I went back after seeing this and converted my hotmail account to firstintiallastname@outlook. always wished i had gotten in on gmail earlier enough to get my name and not have to include a number.
