Haven't really been training for a full marathon particularly well due to some other things. But I managed to pull a 3:59:59 out of my butt and take home a 2nd place age group award.

Minor snafu with the parking when I arrived. The organization that loans them the property didn't get them the right key to open the padlocked gate, so they were routing everyone into parallel parking in the residential neighborhoods across the street. This kinda made me a little late, after getting my bag, bib, chip, etc, there sure wasn't time to stow it in my car, parked a half mile away. And I had to stand in line to use the portajon, while the half/full marathoners started. 🙁 16 minutes later, I started with the 5Kers. Not a bad run though.

I like this even because its sandwiched right between PF Changs and IMS Arizona/Lost Dutchman. Means all the super fast people are competing in those events, so people like me, who usually get beat out by those faster people taking on the medal awarding positions, can make a decent showing. 🙂

Last year, I did the half for this event, and walked away with a first place age group medal after getting an 1:45:05. A decent time(not my best either), but hardly competitive with the pros.

Grats. Don't think I could run if the house were on fire.🙁

So with the 16 min late start, you still pulled 2nd?

Congratulations, impressive distance, and a solid time as well. I'm thinking of doing my first half this year. I can't imagine (or my knees can't imagine :'() twice that distance!

Sounds like the results were based on individual times, not actual finishing position. They use electronic timing to triggered by a tag on your shoe or number, so you can get an accurate time. With 1000+ runners at most events, you simply can't get them through the starting gate together. My last event, I was so far back in the starting corral that I crossed the start line nearly 3 minutes after the gun was fired, and this was *only* a field of 4K runners, I think.

Yep, chip time not gun time. Not my first marathon, though this same event was my first Marathon back in 2007. Have at least three more events this season, IMS Arizona Marathon on 20 Feb, Run for Ryan House Half on 5 Mar, and Mesquite Canyon 25K on the 12th of March.

"3:59:59" how about those 59's? Congrats!!!

Saw the big clock ticking up at 4:15:50 as I came into sight, remembered my 16 minutes late start, and hauled ass. 🙂
