The media got payed off to make big on this rather than real issues.
That they have spent any time at all on this rather non-story story is just sad.

How is it a non-story? It truly reveals the incompetence of this administration.

Shooting someone on a hunting trip is just outright foolish. Obviously Cheney wasn't following proper safety procedures.

And what does this have to do with governing? Nothing.
My keyboard only has a few million keystrokes left before I have to spend $10 on another one so I feel like I'm wasting my money (re: my life) to answer this BUT...Originally posted by: Dissipate

Maybe not. But the question is: how deep does the incompetence go?

Bay Buchanan nailed the spin from the VP and the WH this morning on GMA. Her explanation for the delay of reporting the shooting of Huntington:
(paraphrasing)
The Vice President just wanted to take the time to gather the facts of the story.
Uh....he WAS the freakin' story you painted-up hussie!!
She then continued the spin (also spun by the Veep on the farce interview with Brit Hume) that the national press is just mad that they weren't notified first.
Secrecy leads to suspicion. That's why this became a big story. If Cheney had simply done the right thing and allowed the police/sheriff to investigate as was supposed to happen, this would have been a non-starter. Then again, if he'd been inebriated, the story would be even worse.

This is a silly story, and I think that (once again) the Daily Show managed to hit the nail right on the head. Their "report" on the situation suggested that the reason the media was jumping all over this is that during the last 5 years, there has been virtually NOTHING the press could use as a good story about the Bush administration, they are just too squeaky clean. The joke of course is that the media has had lots of opportunities to really push some huge stories about the Bush administration, and they have (to Bush's immense fortune) fumbled the ball again and again. That they have spent any time at all on this rather non-story story is just sad.
