Diablo III release date: Feb 1st, 2012?

IDk about dumbing down but they have done that in wow for freeking forerver, you can dissable the super detailed tooltops as well, some things like that only happen in the opening tutoral part as well

It's gotten a lot worse in wow though, I re-enabled my tutorial options the other day on a new char and was surprised to see just how much hand-holding they do now. Everything you do gets it's own popup, even quest locations, objective areas and destinations light up on the map. It used to be bad when I started, but you still had to figure some stuff out on your own. Now they basically just walk you through the game (IIRC this got updated in Wrath when a lot of new players were joining).

I didn't make it through my 30 day trial b/c of this. I had been away for years, lost my account info, and thought I'd try again w/ some friends. I HATED what they did to it. Nothing was hard anymore !!! No fear of death. Aggro radius severely shrunk or in many cases red mobs would now be yellow as far as aggro. It was like shooting fish in a barrel (pardon the pun there - I'm tired and its all I got right now).

I was just outright disgusted, and thinking about it is getting me all disgusted all over again. I really wanted to get back into this game, reacquaint myself with some old areas, bathe in the nostalgia (hey that was a good one !), etc. All I got was some skunky ass feeling in my mouth that I had just ingested something awful.

It's not just the tips, that's just one example. If you can disable them, that's great.

But they keep trying to make it easier, no more scrolls of id's, a quick button for town portal, it seems like there is more stuff being simplified than added.

And WoW with their raid and dungeon finder for people to get gear pretty much handed to them without even needing to travel anywhere or organize anything. It seems to be a common theme with Blizz lately.

IMO there just isn't a sense of accomplishment anymore in these games. On the other hand I guess it's good for casual players that don't have much time to play. Overall I figure they just want to please the masses so it makes sense.

because being put in a random raid or party always works out well for the instances in which the good gear is dropped... 🙄

the party / raid finder was a way better solution than the worldwide channel in which people would hit copy paste as fast as they could in their attempt to be seen.

uless they removed them in a beta patch since i last played Ident scrolls are definitly in the game
and the perm town portal isnt an issue, in nearly a decade of playing D2 i NEVER ran out of TPs, seriously have stacks of them that cost nothing or a perm one is really no different

In the article linked they say they're removing them in the next patch, instead your char will inspect the item for a couple seconds to identify it. I don't see what the big deal is though, is removing something that was just a waste of inventory space really dumbing down the game? Does anyone actually feel a sense of achievement from carrying around scrolls?

For me it has, this is the first time I've ever had top tier equipment since we have had our daughter (due to lack of time). It took no time to start getting good gear, but I remember when they added the dungeon finder it also catapulting everyone into good gear, regardless of skill. That's when gearscore became more important than skill level, since no one really knew anyone else in the party. Also, I haven't read up on it completely, but someone told me that if you use the raid finder you are actually playing it at an easier level than if you set up the raid normally. I have no idea if that is true, but it wouldn't surprise me. As it is with wrath they basically had to keep nerfing the lich king down until everyone killed him, so I figure they will do the same with buffs and debuffs for cataclysm.

I guess I can't complain, but considering I hardly ever play the game and have decent equipment basically means to me it's been dumbed down quite a bit. I remember it taking weeks of raiding with my guild to get any decent gear. Now it's just a few nights.

Maybe others have had issues actually finding decent groups, but randoms have always been fine with me. I've even started tanking raids again, and I hardly know the rotations.

I guess time will tell if Diablo 3 will be dumbed down a lot, which to be honest at this point in my life I hope it is. But if it's fan base is anything like WoW's, everyone will bitch that it is too hard, then they will dumb it down more and I'll be amazing at the game in no time :awe:

ahh i didn't see that and TBH no one used ident scrolls after you saved Cain anyway, they simply TPed and had dakkard Cain do his free auto ident

Yes, it is an easier level. They've mostly removed or nerfed certain mechanics to make the fights simpler for PUGs. I think the only fights that requires some sense of coordination is Yor'sahj and Deathwing (2 out of 8).

Regarding WoW LFR, yes it is easier than the normal version. Most encounters are missing 1, if not 2 or 3 entire mechanics which would make gathering 25 random people together 1. wipe fests, 2. grief fests.

But the insulting fact that you don't know this yet rail against casuals having fun in the end tier content is mind blowing. Normal mode T13 gear is an entire tier better than the LFR T13. So news flash, you don't have 'decent' gear compared to raiders.

I was a hardcore raider back when I had the free time during college, and all of this 'dumbing' down of the game is something I would have loved back then even when I was #1-3 on the server. Removing tedious shit in a game strictly because it's there to be tedious shit is a huge + in my book.

I didn't mean to come off like I was "railing against casuals", but it did sound like that, so I apologize. Like I stated in my post I am (at the current time) a casual player, and that these changes are good for me. I really don't have the time to research anything so I wasn't aware that there was an additional tier over LFR T13, I'm glad that they have it separated like that, otherwise I could see hardcore players getting bored and leaving. I just think it strange that I used to have to play my ass off and now I can see all content without much invested time, which is why I was referring to the lack of accomplishment. I feel that when it was more of a challenge it felt better to get it done. Now when a final boss goes down no one is even on vent 5 seconds later, and they have all joined the next queue.

Overall I was just agreeing with others in the thread that we are probably going to see dumbing down of Diablo in D3, just as we did in WoW, to satisfy the masses. Good or bad, I think it will happen, I just hope they plan it well and have options for hardcore players as well.

Are we even playing the same game? Diablo is already 'simple' outside of screwing your character up permanently because you didn't know what stats did what or didn't have a perfect set of gear waiting for you at 75 so you could get your minimum str/dex requirements set beforehand.

I thought for sure they'd get it out before summer. Going by these latest changes, I guess not.

The new stats system sounds like a big improvement. Having every stat be useful for every character may have seemed good on paper, but ended up sucking all of the variety out of itemization.

I meant hardcore as in events like D2 had like Ubers or DClone, not just endless final (Baal) runs, but something later that require a group and some decent builds. Although I only ran DClone and Ubers a couple of times before I quit playing, I'm sure people were soloing those at higher levels with all runeword gear on. It's been so long, I didn't remember D2 being so simple.

Man did the people responsible for marketing at Blizzard ever drop the ball with Diablo 3. They were clearly lining their ducks up for a release sometime last year with all the extreme hype, F&F beta > Closed public beta, social media contests, Blizzcon etc...

Suddenly something must of slipped the rails and now they are left to pick up the pieces by having their developers post updates to the eager masses.

I believe he means the Battle.Net Tag, which is a separate ID from your Real ID that allows you to establish e-friendships with people but still maintain a sense of anonymity (since your real ID displays your name). It's in the form of "[user-chosen name].#####" (I think it's 5 numbers).

the people that complain about "casuals" doing LFR annoy me. It has no impact on you if you do LFR or not. what other gear you others have really shouldn't bother you.

My guild wasn't fast on raiding but we usually ran the latest content. We still do when we have time. LFR has given me a way to see the end situation without bashing my head against the wall.


most that are against it or the nerfing of DS just don't want those that they think are not "elite" having the gear. if you don't want to play the nerfed zone you can turn off the buff or go to herioc and stay out of LFR.



Does that mean i rock? no. we still are going to do regular DS10/25 and then start on heriocs. that's what we did going all the way back to BC.

This gave us a chance to see the end situation faster. We are usually a good 8-12 months behind.
