Torchlight is already out now. You can buy it on steam for cheap..and its the same thing. It has a better everything. Graphics/gameplay/item drops.
If you want better voice actors then maybe that is worth more money to you.
The only thing Torchlight lacked was the online mmo/multiplayer aspect which is what gave D2 it's longevity by giving people a reason to do the same thing over and over again. I'd give D2 the edge on mood as well.
Also April 17th 2013 is more likely than 2012![]()
torchlight was fun, but it definitely did not appeal to me the same way D2 did even though it was made by some of the people who made D1/D2.
public beta generally means they're what... 3 months away?
Um, we are talking Blizzard here. So the "Normal" rules on release don't apply.
I haven't been keeping up with all of the developments. someone said only online? Does that mean you can't play solo? If that is the case, that is a deal breaker for me. Online is fun and enjoyable, but I don't want to always have to deal with other players in my game. Just not my thing or style.
As others have mentioned, Torchlight is really more of a clone of the original Diablo than Diablo II. I think it's interesting, because Torchlight II seems to be taking the same steps that Diablo took from 1 to 2. The original Diablo took place under Tristram, and the original Torchlight took place under... umm... whatever that city is called. Diablo 2 became more of an open world game, and that's exactly what Torchlight II is.
i still miss the creepy feeling of diablo1. literally sent chills down my spine. the music and ambiance of stepping foot into the cathedral was amazing, and only got more terrifying the farther down you went.
D2 did not have that![]()
I actually don't know if there is an offline single player mode.

There isn't. Everything is generated server-side, which means you must be connected to Battle.Net to play Diablo 3.
I actually don't really remember much about Diablo.Although, maybe Blizzard will get back to that feeling with Diablo 3? I'll have to check out the beta again to see what some of the music sounds like. I guess it wasn't that great (memorable) since I don't remember it.

generally, i'd agree...but when Blizzard does their public beta's, we usually see the game in 3-6 months.
You can play online, alone ... I actually don't know if there is an offline single player mode.
I'de rather put my money on an end of the world prediction than a D3 rumored release date. When its officially announced by Blizzard, I'll believe it then.
There are no offline modes at all. You must remain attached to Battle.net to play. You can however password protect your game and play alone, or with a hand picked group.
This is why I won't touch the game. If my network suddenly goes down or I get a bad storm and am on a laptop I cannot even play. Lame.
Yeah but you might say everyone is online all the time anyway...not really.
Torchlight was a half-assed clone of Diablo. It was certainly fun enough for awhile, but it's hardly the same thing, and saying it's "better" is just dishonest.

How so is it dishonest? Tell me something D3 has that torchlight does not have that effects the same core gameplay.
Being a "clone" of diablo 1 does not make it worst. Lots of clones are better than original.
Nevermind the fact you won't EVER get to mod diablo 2 like you can torchlight with all the mods.
Torchlight lacks any variety in gameplay - every corridor on every level looks exactly the same and every group of enemies have the same appearance and abilities. It is a real grind, and there are no distractions, side quests, breaks, cut scenes, story, or anything else to vary the flow of the gameplay. This makes the game fun for a short while but it gets repetitive and boring immediately.
