If it keeps up like it has I see it lasting 8+ seasons. I dunno - they make it sound like this season is where he gives up a lot of stuff and killing isn't useful to him anymore. I mean it could be a twist like when they found his bodies, but who knows.

The end of season 4 rocked me. I watched the whole season in less than a week, so I was pretty immersed in it. I literally couldn't sleep that night, had the get up and remind myself it's just a TV show.
 
My wife and I thought season 4 was great. Best since season 1. The look of shock on our faces at the end would have been priceless to tape. John Lithgow did such an awesome job as Trinity. We did get a bit annoyed at how much Dexter screwed up the whole time.
 
My wife hadn't remembered the ending so we watched the last episode of season 4 last weekend. Good stuff. She always freaks out at the fact that Deb and Dexter are married IRL and play siblings on the show.
 
Anyone know if there are legal avenues to obtain Dexter episodes shortly after they air if you don't have showtime? Dexter's the only show I watch on Showtime so I would like to cancel, but I'm not sure if I am patient enough to wait a year or so for the DVD release. iTunes and Amazon both seemingly are delayed substantially...?

I think Hulu has them right away, but they are moving to a subscription service soon.

I wait till a few weeks before the season finale and subscribe to Showtime. I catch up with the season on On Demand and then usually watch the finale when it airs live. After the finale I cancel Showtime.
 
Didn't realize Hulu might have it. Strange considering that Hulu is free and showtime is not. Will check into it. Thanks.
 
As a friend of mine put it, " 4,2,3,1 in that order are the best seasons. Season 4 was by far the best and the ending is a total mind fuck!" I couldn't put it better myself! Can't wait to see the new season tonight!
 
I also cried at the end of 4. The start to 5 was good, liked the end. Not a cliffhanger, but a definite turn in the show's character.

3 stunk compared to the others.
 
I think everyone should pretty much agree 3 was the worst. 2 and 4 duke it out for first and 1 is in between.
 
It was OK. Another homicide detective investigating Dexter... shocking. I did like when he did finally rage out a bit, but other than that it was more of a malaise for me.

Subsequent weeks look decent.

I did like the introspective into how much he did just play the part with Rita as a true sociopath... the first date flashback made me laugh.
