In DX11 the game performed fine, but DX9 was a complete mess; unfortunately, DX11 had it's own set of bugs (reported by many users, not just me as an isolated case) that dissuaded me from using it. Either way, I stand by what I said, the game was the buggiest I've played of that entire generation.

Human Revolution doesn't hold a candle to Bethesda Softworks, Obsidian Entertainment, or BioWare games of that generation when it comes to bugs...

I could barely make it to megaton before my game crashed. I never had issues like that in Deus Ex:HR. Might be a hardware/driver thing.

Deus Ex IW was also fine for me, beyond not having as many choices as the original game.

I just hope the artistic direction and fidelity are upped in this game. I liked Human Revolution, but the environment art and execution were just abysmal.

What??? I would go so far to say that the environment art and overall atmosphere was among the best parts of HR (except for the office building I guess). It had some beautiful world art and lighting design.

Hmmm. I know we don't have much info yet, I just hope they don't take it the way of Splinter Cell and turn it into a pure action game with "stealth elements". I'm also hoping they do a little more with the story. Thus far what we've gotten has been pretty predictable if you've played the first game.

1. Human centric path
2. Machine centric path
3. Illuminati centric path

Is a little mix-up too much to ask? :p

Given the tagline is that the user has control, I suspect it will have at least as much freedom as HR, hopefully more. I wonder how they will reconcile the choices the player had in the last game - will that just be a footnote, or worse, what they did in Invisible War?

This. While small, the Cities did feel like they could be real. I would have preferred more areas to go (past the mobs in Detroit, the upper city in Hengsha) and perhaps better loading/larger areas between loads. I guess at least it wasn't as bad as loading in the original game - I remember one area where going down some stairs causes you to load. If you accidentally take a single step backwards....load back into the old map.

Yeah, the cities really felt great. I felt like each area I was in was built with a theme, and that the designer had some scene in mind. While I'd like the maps to always be bigger, I don't want it to turn into an open world game where the people, buildings, and scenery are generic and auto-generated.

That is the last thing I'd want - but I would have preferred more freedom to roam, and more missions I guess. In the end, the areas felt as small as they did in Deus Ex 1. Which is sad, given DE1 is from 2000. I'm not even sure if a single mission was as large as Liberty Island (the first mission in Deus Ex.)

However... I'm a bit worried about that trailer. The previous game allowed the player a lot of leeway in terms of how violently he approached it. However, the trailer is pretty violent. I'm hoping it is a representation of things Jensen MAY do in the game rather than cutscenes depicting things he does do.

It doesn't appear to be much more violent than the announcement trailer for Human Revolution. More fighting shown, but more potentially non-lethal abilities as well, doesn't look like Adam deliberately kills anybody until later on when he attacks the terrorists. Trailers for games with multiple play styles rarely give more than a nod to the less than straight combat options. For a series revival in 2011 which survived pure CoDification, I think a sequel now should be mostly safe under the same team.

I'm replaying HR with the director's cut version. Great game, although this version has a few issues. I don't see any stuttering though, and it stays at a constant 120fps. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

I would like to see this too. In HR, the two city hubs are excellent and have many areas to explore, but the other maps are a lot more linear, especially compared to the first game. There is less interactivity or emergent gameplay in general. For example, you can only pick up a few boxes, while the first two games allowed you to pick up and throw any object in the world.

Love the original Deus Ex (I actually preferred it to Half-Life). I haven't had a chance to play Human Revolution as my laptop isn't up to the task, but I'm planning to build a new desktop this summer and get caught up.

Where'd you get the impression it was coming out this year? End of February is actually a lot earlier then I had originally thought.

they posted something last year that said "by the end of 2015"

also a website was showing that date, but it seems like it was just a placeholder for the real date

Meh, make the game good.

I saw them talk about it at PAX on friday, and while the demo looked cool (with some neat new powers and some more fluid combinations of powers and guns) the whole presentation was severely lacking in details.

They didn't say anything about future plans beyond "We're focusing on this game" (which is good, but I'd be curious to see if they plan to build up to the original games.)

oh holy crap, they have taken pre-order idiocy to new levels:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJkzcQDqbpE&a=1

spoilers: they'll release it 4 days early and give you extra content - but only if you and enough other people preorder it so that the quota is reached

Yeah, they're basically punishing people for not pre-ordering. "Pre-order, or you get less of a game!"

Not that that's going to stop people, rabid fans being rabid and all, but they sure aren't getting my money for an incomplete game.

No reason to put any stock in controlled demos anymore. Too many things have looked awesome at PAX and been awful at launch. I'm not even pre-ordering XCOM 2, and I trust Firaxis.

TotalBiscuit wasn't impressed either to say the least...

Deus Ex Pre-order Bollocks:-

He's right. It's almost as if Square Enix want to actively send piracy through the roof. If you haven't pre-ordered and it's "official release day T minus 1-4 days" then there's only one source you can get your copy (along with the usual 'pirate bonuses' of no DRM plus it will come with all three 'Booster Packs' (Intruder / Enforcer / Classic) whereas the legal version will come with only one locked to certain retailers)...

Edit: I also agree with him over why such massive 'bonuses' are needed anyway whose effect on gameplay is little more than the mobile "pay to win" trash. A ton of free praxis kits, money and overpowered weapons that make the game massively easier? If you wanted to cheat that badly, you can download a trainer and 'accomplish' exactly the same thing...

In response to the massive negative feedback, the "Augment your preorder" program has been cancelled!

"After much thought and reflection, we decided to close down the program and make all of the incentive content available to anyone who preorders Deus Ex Mankind Divided or purchases a Day 1 edition of the game."

So there's still preorder bonuses, but you're assured to get all of them without picking and choosing, and there's no more of that early release bollocks. I can preorder the collector's edition without so much of a guilty conscience, now.
