but...but... when you tax it equals more money right????
What is this shit about indirect affects of tax increases? People putting their money elsewhere? Companies laying off and thus a reduction in payroll tax paid? People leaving to avoid the taxes? High unemployment and nothing but poverty? Get out of here with your truthful bullshit! The liberal media doesn't want to hear such shenanigans. You're putting a kink in the circle jerk.
Tax increases don't have that much to do with the downfall of Detroit. We have the folks in charge down there siphoning off the money into their pockets. The School District is suffering because of it, the city is suffering because of it. Couple that with poor education, low morale/bad attitudes, crime, and poverty...you have a recipe for disaster.
The powers that be in Detroit want nothing more than to continue collecting their paychecks, they aren't trying. Scandal after scandal...nothing is getting at the City control level.
At the commerce level, people are trying. There are tons of new things popping up downtown. This image that Detroit is empty is silly. People are coming back, not in droves, but trickling back in to pick up the pieces and rebuild.
I'd give it another 15-25 years.
