Arabs. Check
Males between 15-40. Check

They need to be put on no-fly list and watched for Sudden Jihad Syndrome.
 
How does anyone know how to take this when the intent of the students is unknown?

Honestly, I can't see how it portrays terrorism.. or how it supports what the terrorists did on 9/11/01. It doesn't really make much sense, regardless of how you look at it..
 
That school needs to get the stick out of it's ass. It's pushing it that this was meant in any harmful way whatsoever. The worst these kids are guilty of is not realizing that being of Arab decent someone might make something out of it. That's not a crime, nor should it be.

Kids= innocent
School= terminally dumb.

Um, no they're not Arabs by decent. They are Americans. The fact that you can't comprehend that and managed to someone move all the way over to simply "Arabs" speaks volumes.
 
They're Arabs. Arab is an ethnicity, not a nationality.
If you want to argue about something, it would have to be whether it matters that they're Arabs.

What you or I think doesn't matter. The principal of the schoold called them in and confiscated the shirts before any trouble broke out. I think it was a smart move on his part or we might be talking about how they were lseverly beaten by some other students instead of having their freedom of speech rights trampled on.

I thought that freedom of speech was limited in schools, especially high schools?

I didn't realize that was their mascot, I thought it was just a childishly drawn plane. Knowing that and that they are the class of 2011, their meaning seems to me to be clear: You (the school) can't bring us (Class of '11) down. Stupid and inappropriate symbolism, but considering that the students cast themselves in the role of the towers rather than the plane it doesn't seem like they were attacking the country or supporting terrorism, but rather just knocking the school itself.

Class of 2011, hence the 11. The 11 looks like the twin towers in memoriam, the "You can't bring us down!" is a shout of youthful defiance against the attack on the US, proclaiming that their class, like the US, will fight on and persevere in the face of adversity. The school mascot is not flying into the towers, it's prowling the air in defensive manouevers in a demonstration of school spirit, strength and pride.

That's literally what I saw in the 2 seconds I looked at the shirt. Sure, it's not as clear as it could be, but in context that's the only thing that makes sense to me.

Now if you want to believe they wore shirts celebrating the destruction of the twin towers, the loss of 3000 american lives, and the decade of hell that we just lived through, and that they thought such sentiments were a welcome idea their community would embrace, I'd have to think that's a faulty interpretation.

That was kind of my point. I don't see the connection the principal or news is trying to make. I have to say with all the kids having an "arab" origin you might be able to look something into this. But if it was some redneck I'd just assume it was a 'MERICA! pride shirt.

Besides, like I said to start with, I agree with you that this sin't newsworthy and if some other "edgy" students decide they eant to knock their teeth out that won't be newsworthy either. Kids will be kids. 😛

Except they basically admit that's not the case. And it takes great intellectual acrobatics not to see their jihadist sympathies coming through loud and clear with the windows on the numerals and their mascot flying into it.

They are stupid kids. Gibraltar trade center is a really poor flea market where you can get pretty much whatever done. It's unfortunate that they are of middle eastern heritage. I'm certain if they were white, they'd get a chuckle and maybe told off for the stupid shirts. Its just kids being kids. One probably thought it was funny being the class of 2011 and all.

School officials said the boys intended the shirts to be displays of class pride and did not understand that they would be perceived as offensive

That's the part I missed, and was posing the question as to what the intent was. Again, I made no attempt to paint this in a certain light, and I make no apologies for asking simple questions!
 
The shirts don't even necessarily have anything to do with 9/11. Each piece can easily be explained.
