I think it was sort of funny. I have no problem with the schools having the final say on what's acceptable attire, but I don't think this was newsworthy.

Note: "Arabs" didn't wear these shirts, "Arab-Americans" did. You know, American citizens like the rest of you.

Let's be clear. These are AMERICAN kids at an AMERICAN high school. Their parents happen to be of muslim descent, but these kids are American. Just as they always do, however, the news changes that to "Arab-American". What the fuck is Arab-American?

Then the OP takes it a step further. Let's just call them a-rabs.

This entire story is about a bunch of high school seniors making sweatshirts for their class. That's it. When my class did it, the motto they tried to slip in was "Most of our studying was between the sheets." The school admin caught it at the last second and threw a fit.

So the entire story is about some American high school kids who may not entirely realize the implications of the shirt they made. Oh-my-god. High school kids with questionable judgement? SAY IT AIN'T SO!

Agreed. However if some other "American" kids decided to throw a blanket party for these 15 kids that shouldn't be newsworthy either. After all, kids will be kids.

Did you even read my post? I made no attempt to twist the story, in fact I posed a question directly addressing what their intentions were because no news story answered this. Try READING.

They are minority ppl... cant do anything about it, probably will cost millions if someone tried... better let them go, whats the worst that can happen... few of us will die...

my first impression was that it was anti-extremist and pro-america and the WTC were shown as a memorial of sorts.

School officials said the boys intended the shirts to be displays of class pride and did not understand that they would be perceived as offensive

I don't understand what the shirt means. The school mascot is flying toward twin towers, and it says "you can't bring us down"? Bring who down? The school can't bring the Arab-American students down? Does the mascot represent terrorism?

The comments about it being "distasteful" or whatever are misplaced. It just plain makes no sense. Are they pro-America or pro-terrorist? That's the question that should be asked.

Wait... I must have skipped over the part about them being class of 2011. Now it makes more sense. It must be an unfortunate coincidence that they're Arab-Americans.
