Today I was thinking about what in Destiny really turns me off. I think it's the load times. The amount of delay between finishing a story mission and beginning the next one is just too much. You should just be dropped back to the planet after the mission, where you can select a new mission on the planet or return to orbit. They should really add merchants (or least a robot to identify your drops)on the various planets too.

Can someone time some of the load times and post them up? I am really not seeing super long loads. But again, I have my game installed to an SSD so that might be affecting it, or it doesn't effect it at all and I am just not bothered by the load time?

If someone with a PS4 could load up 5 or 6 places, time each load then post the time and where they were loading from/to.
That way I can do the same to get a direct comparison of HDD vs SSD for this game.

Every FPS game has FPS stuff, yes, but not every FPS has as much repetition as Destiny.

Bioshock had an intriguing narrative and a great atmosphere that made up for its other flaws.

Agreed; Bioshock (I skipped 2, so I'm talking about 1 and Infinity) isn't as repetitious, has the various plasmids to play with and perhaps most importantly, has a proper interesting story behind it. There's a good amount of variation in the gameplay between plasmids you use and guns you have. Bioshock 1 and Inf are up there with the classic games I love like System Shock 2 and Deus Ex (no sub-title, the original game. The best one of the 3.)

I really don't understand why people who don't have the game complain as much as those who have played it. What is wrong with you ?

Because people read reviews. I have it and...well, for one it doesn't live up the hype. Period. Moreover, it doesn't even live up to the cost. If you're going to give me an MMOFPS, give me an actual MMOFPS, not some lame "you can have only 3 people and no chat unless you're in the party!" nonsense. Destiny is the first real MMOFPS (and maybe, MMO in general) on a console to get this much attention. It had everyone's attention and COULD have made MMOs on a console seem like REALLY fun stuff. Instead we get a watered down FPS with some multiplay elements built in. And it isn't that they can't have more than 3 players in an instance...I've been in instanced areas while in a party of 3 and seen other people walking around. So why the limit?

Oh - and part of my frustration is that these games nowadays try to hook you by getting the DLC - which they even tell you the story for it - in the preorder bundle. They plan games and then remove sections to shove into DLC. I mean, at least they aren't peddling horse armor in Destiny, but still...can we end this DLC nonsense?

Oh goodness, yes. Going from earth to...well, earth - but the tower - takes forever. I pretty much load and go play with the cats, or the dog. Or get a drink. Or whatever. I haven't timed it, but I can tell you the elevator on the Normandy on ME1 might actually have taken less time. That's an accomplishment.

I'm pretty sure the trolls are the morons sharing opinions on something they haven't played. Those are the only people, in my opinion, whose opinion means exactly jack.

Destiny is absolutely not game of the year material, but people should at least see things for themselves before judging. I can understand the opinion of "this game just isn't for me based on everything I've read", but the bashing and "this game suxxorz" from tards who haven't touched it is a little stupid. In my opinion. :D

Rather than reply to the bogus reply from the person who obviously has me on ignore, I will point out his lie. This thread was started about the apparent overwhelming lukewarm reviews. REVIEWS FROM PEOPLE WHO PLAYED THE GAME. Not only played the game, played through to the ENDGAME.

His (and others responses) were of the vein that their opinions were wrong and that this was a great game. While sure, opinions are different he basically has spent the entire thread arguing why everyone else is completely wrong on their thoughts of the GAME THEY PLAYED. A few include: didn't play long enough...if you didn't play to level 20 then your opinion was 'rushed'. I played the beta. I think I only played it to level 12 or so. My opinion has no merit because 'the game starts at 20!'. Really? COUGH. You had too high expectations. Maybe, except many had no expectations. The game is just repetitively boring. There is no grand change once you hit 20. This has been confirmed by many people, even those who enjoy it. All the while calling people trolls. Sure people who enjoy grinding will love this game and most people didn't say the game was bad per se, but it isn't for everyone. Some people can't accept that.

I can accept that people who haven't played it trashing it maybe being called trolls, but that really isn't what this thread has been.

Did you enjoy the time you spent getting to 22/23 or were you just forcing yourself to b/c you bought the game? I ask this b/c, I've done that in the past with games like MGS 4. Couldn't stand that game, but had to finish it to the end to find out what all the hype was about. Sadly, I was very dissappointed. I'm probably going off on a tangent here, but MGS1 was soooo awesome, but I could not get into any other MGS.

To answer your question, I play it because I don't have too many other options on the Xbox One. As I said earlier, it's not the worst game I've ever played so spending a few hours here or there isn't a total grind. I just think the game is a mediocre one, and no where near what the hype wants you to believe.

I'm almost convinced people have latched on to this game so much because there isn't really anything else out yet. Had this shown up vs Halo 5 or some other major title and it wouldn't get as many rabid fans. As for it starting at level 20, I don't see any difference other than the gear is a lot better. Unless I'm missing something and the game really is about PvP in the crucible and the like. The only other main thing I saw open up was the team up and do the same boss level missions over and over again.

On the PS4 and XB1 this might be true, but not on the 360/3 so much. I pre-ordered because of the hype. I regret it now, and since it was a digital order...well, I can't get rid of it.

For me it's great because I don't have time to play like crazy as many have already. So it's interesting that I just lag behind at my own pace and level up on my own. I don't like the grinds so much but the strikes are the easy ways to do it and of course bounties.

In all honesty I think people today are impatient and that's too bad because the game will evolve over time. Bungie knows what they are doing.

This is funny. As if people were bored by the first few levels of Super Mario Bros. but continued playing because they knew the lore would be great in four games.

I didn't even bother with reviews. Some of those user reviews, and we've been over this several times in this thread, are not fair. I wouldn't even give a 0 or 4 to a game I hate.

I agree the game needs better chat and party system. I have Diablo 3 as well and people don't communicate on there either. Maybe it's just because I play with randoms.

What is a generic fps? To me an fps is an fps..doesn't matter if it's halo or goldeneye. I'm not a huge fan of halo anyway and to me I never understood why all the hype for it. But then again I don't usually go with the crowd.

I'm glad Bungie requested that reviewers take a week before submitting their judgement about Destiny. It's not because I think it helped Destiny's score at all, but rather because it gave me enough time to get thoroughly hooked on the game to the extent that the scores didn't matter to me by the time they came out. If I had seen all those 6/10 scores before I bought the game I probably never would have gotten it. I would have missed out on what, for me, has been a completely enjoyable and engrossing experience.

A generic FPS is one that follows the popular one (Call of Duty in this case) where perks, attachments, rapid leveling up, killstreaks are a part of it. Destiny doesn't really have any of that but you do get badgets/achievement/throphy for living a long time without dying (well there's a bounty misison for that).

Can someone time some of the load times and post them up? I am really not seeing super long loads. But again, I have my game installed to an SSD so that might be affecting it, or it doesn't effect it at all and I am just not bothered by the load time?

That way I can do the same to get a direct comparison of HDD vs SSD for this game.

I don't even think that the length of the load times bothered me in the beta as much as the sheer number of times you had to load stuff. It ties back into the fact that areas themselves are too small. It's a lot of back-and-forth from the hub to a place (at least, that's what it was in the beta). Spending 15 minutes on a quest, then having to load for probably 10-20 seconds, spend 1-2 minutes turning in the quest, then 10-20 loading to the area for the next one, it was all too much waiting and not enough doing.

Fair enough, I generally will grab bounties and stuff, then head out and finish all of them collecting loot along the way, then cash everything in at the tower afterwards. Only other reason I head to the tower is if my inventory fills up before i am done with my bounties or whatever I am doing.

I end up doing a ton of stuff and only go to the hub or different planet if I have a quest or raid. I just go to the tower before I sign out and get rid of and store anything I dont want, upgrade and log out. Loading times never really bothered me much.

The load times in mlb 15 piss me off.

The big thing for me would be in-game party formation. You need some way of letting people in the public areas know that you're looking for a raid or nightfall party. I refuse to go around randomly inviting people to my fireteam just so I can tell them what I'm doing, only to have them tell me they're not interested. Every time I think about it I get angry at Bungie for leaving it out of the game.

There's a website called destinylfg.net where you can request people for a fireteam and specify platform and what mission you want.

This is funny. As if people were bored by the first few levels of Super Mario Bros. but continued playing because they knew the lore would be great in four games.

This makes no sense whatsoever. Mario was not a game designed with a story at all. In fact many NES games and even some SNES and Genesis games had very little in the way or story and lore. That comparison is way off. Heck even the new SUper Mario games are incredibly light on story. Outside of the RPG games that's how it always is for those games. So I dunno what point you're even trying to come up with.

It seems to vary, sometimes quick...sometimes seemingly forever.

Which would lead me to think it could be partly network related as well.

I'm willing to bet it's mostly network related. Matchmaking for the strikes and crucible matches isn't lightning quick either, and there has to be some kind of semi-matchmaking/syncing going on for the story missions/patrols. May also explain people being booted mid-game as well.

I would tend to agree with that. I just can't imagine the resource loading would take all that long, it has to be the network.

Which is sad that we have to resort to a website in 2014. Makes it seem like it's a 90's PC game.

You can also set up a fireteam on bungie but you need to find people and that can be tough because interaction in the game is low with randoms.
