Yep, it's never going to be perfect. I tried it on 360 and on PS3. I ended up liking it quite a bit on PS3 with Cod and BC2 (I bought it and helped set it up for someone transitioning from console to PC for FPS, which was eventually a total success). With the PS4 sticks being higher resolution than 360 and PS3 (according to XIM devs), I'm hoping that this will translate into an even better product this time.
It was definitely better over all. I tried it with Black Ops 2 and Halo 4. The prior wasn't too bad overall. I was playing with a friend, and I would probably just be feeding the other team if I had used a controller. However, I was at least somewhat competent with the XIM, but it's kind of like going to a drag race in your 4-banger instead of your V8. You know it could be better!
I wouldn't mind giving the PS4 version a try, but I recall the XIM not being fairly cheap. Although, I was able to recoup most of that cost via selling mine on eBay. So, even then... it's not too bad.
I was impressed enough to punch the ticket for the PS4 version. It will never be as good as PC, but I hate FPS with a pad so much that I'll just happily deal with it. Last time I got totally tuned into it after about 2 hours (no longer trying to overreach the limits of the turns, and getting the accel/decel touch down). The only negative is going back to PC you have to acclimate again for a few minutes, but the 1:1 does make going this way easier.
Well, it may not be too necessary. I saw a news post on IGN that Activision says that a PC port for Destiny has been a hot button topic for them. There's no guarantee yet, but it
could happen.
