I bought an 'executive' leather office chair from Staples about 3 years ago. It was a fine chair. Served its purpose with efficiency. That is, until one of my hefty friends decided to make use of its reclining feature. I heard a loud noise, looked to my left, and saw his feet pointing straight up.

Crime Scene Photo

I didn't know what to do! I have been sitting on the amputated rolling platform of back pain. I can't stand the pressure, the lack of lumbar support. Which side is the front? Which is the back? So today, I decided to do something about it:

Replacement 1
Replacement 2
Replacement 3

I had a chair for 5 or 6 years once, had several "hefty" friends use it, one day the actual welds burst on it o_O....the whole mount just tore in half. Very sad.

I had that happen to one of mine. I just welded it back together, but the recline didn't work after that :( Now I have a sweet leather, steel, aluminum, and memory foam chair from costco. Lifetime warranty and all that.

It was either the Lane chair you are describing or an Aeron. Decision made.

How much did it cost you?

What I paid isn't important. MSRP, however, is roughly $1500.

I'd expect a full livingroom set for that much money, with a nice recliner that has a keyboard tray built right into it.

the "leather" is plastic of course heh...it cracks peels, and the padding goes.

I hope the Aeron has a metal frame. Otherwise I'm not impressed.
I'm not familiar with that brand BTW.

I had the exact same thing hapen to mine (same model), was leaning back and all bolt-holes just gave out. Got a replacement of a simial type, now I don't lean back on it as much.

Yea. I bought a Staples Damage Protection plan that is good until 5/22/2008. Sadly, there isn't a Staples within 100 miles of Austin, TX. I have to keep the chair until I go back to Dallas again, get a new chair, and sell it on Craigslist!

So you paid more than MSRP then?

<balki bartokomous>Don't be ridiculous</balki bartokomous>

And it has a 12 year warranty. When I figured out that it'd cost me about the same as 1 chiropractor appointment per year for 12 years, it was a done deal. I used to have terrible back pain, now I have none. My old chair was the cause. It was a nice, padded chair, but like many cheap chairs the back and the seat could not move independently.

I used that Herman Miller chair at my work untill I started having some lower back pains. I ended up using this one which I find to be pretty good.
