Q]Desert Eagle, is it worth it?[/quote]depends...

The best gun overall for home defense is a pistol grip 12 gauge shotgun with an 18" barrel and a laser sight. For a home defense handgun my choice is a Sig 226 or 228 .40 with this laser sight
the 12 w/magnum rounds can be a little difficult to control, definitely for the big of stature...20 guage would be a better choice for most, and for a smallish woman, you couldn't beat a .410 pump...very easy to use

I have a friend who told me about firing the .50 cal DE on a range. He said he was warned about the recoil, but didn't think it would be as bad as it was. He said he planted his feet as instructed, pressed forward when squeezing the trigger, and the gun recoiled so hard it almost hit him in the face. Now this guy is 6'2" and built like a tank, and if the recoild from a .50 cal DE can almost knock him over, it just might be a little big for you.
your 6'2" friend must be a "wimp" then, the story in the Desert Eagle is, that its so massive, it soaks up the recoil of the shell...feels like shooting a 9mm...there are places where the Desert Eagle is actually preferred for home defense, namely
BEAR COUNTRY I've heard that in places like Alaska some actually prefer it over a rifle, for a smallish person who might not like the size or recoil, these are good altenatives...if you can pick it up and hold it steady, you can pretty much shoot it

First: guns are not toys. They're great for recreation, but only once you actually know how to handle them SAFELY.
w/ the only exception, which I described above the Desert Eagle is most definitely a toy...a collectors toy...
I like my
toy
