Rivera blows another one, Sox have his number. Rivera was in his prime in like 97, thats 8 years, he's over the hill. Even the Yankee fans in this thread must agree he isnt as dominating as he used to be.

EDIT: oh ya, GO SOX!

The Sox certainly showed that Rivera doesn't scare them, and they can hit him hard. But today I think it was a bit more than that. The guy could not throw a strike. His control is usually fantastic and he couldn't get it over. That's more than just the Sox hitting him, he may have messed something up in his mechanics, or he may be hurt. Done? I don't think so.

Props to the Sox for getting to Rivera twice in a row. Is Mariano done? Way too early to tell, and you don't just lose it in one year like that. But he certainly had no control today, and that is very strange. You never see him lose the plate like he did today. Perhaps he's hurt? Who knows, way too early for anything.

I don't think Rivera is done by any stretch. Despite the past two days, I don't think any fans likes seeing him come out of the bullpen to close a game.

If anything the last two games further illustrate how its going to be one long season between the Red Sox and Yankees.

exactly, and teh sox have hit rivera well before, kinda liek now NY hits pedro well

You have to be stupid not to ackknowledge that. Mariano went from being argueably the best closer ever to probably something like top 5. Just the fact that sox have his number doesn't mean he should retire. Plus every year (even during his prime) he goes through stretches when he completely losses his control. It's lot like Sox hammered him today, he just walked a bunch of guys and they hit several ground balls.

He had 53 saves last year. 53! Only the 2nd time in his career that he had a 50+ save season.

Didn't say he should retire, just said he is past his peak of his career, still a very good pitcher, however , now its not a done deal like it used to be. There is a chance for any club to get back into the ball game and take it from the Yankees. Either control wise, or just plain hitting him.

I never argued with that. I just called out a few "baseball know-it-alls" who claimed Mariano is done and should retire.
