<< Blah blah blah... as if that will stop future pirates. >>

--->funny this statement could also be made about the 'war' efforts against terrorists (replacing the word pirates with terrorists)!

<< So, stop stealing Microsoft's software, and you shouldn't have a problem. And Microsoft can charge whatever it wants for its software. If you can't pay it, move along please. >>

Ok your in the wrong here. For a guy named logix that is not all that logical. Microsoft cannot charge whatever they want for their Not-so-good Operating Systems and although im not advocating warez not everyone is so fortunate to be able to throw around 200+ bucks for M$' new kid on the block each time it comes out.

no loss for me, i have zero warez on my computer. this is not to say that i pay for all my software, however 🙂

Okay, what are you talking about? Microsoft can charge whatever the hell they want. They ccan charge $1,000,000 per copy for Windows, but no one would buy it. They could charge $1,000 and a few people would buy it. They currently charge $100-300 for it an many, many people buy it.

No, not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to hand over $300 to MS. That's why they have academic pricing. But, if a kid can't get a job at McDonald's to pay for a legal copy of Windows and has to pirate it, then the kid's doing so at his own risk. But, if you can afford to buy a computer, I'd guess you can also afford to purchase a legal OS.

What is Ashcroft's problem? Shouldn't he be going after terrorists, or something? Yet here he is wasting time going after warez kiddies, threatening Oregon doctors who follow Oregon law, and chasing after people in California and other states who allow the use of medical marijuana, etc. What happened to all of the terrorists he's supposed to be looking for?

Too bad that Microsoft broke the law and developed a monopoly.

Unfair pricing and stifling competition through stiff arm contracts? If you can't understand it, move along please.

<< The undercover ?warez' site has been accessed to transfer over 100,000 files, including over 12,000 separate software programs, movies and games. >>

Did anyone else catch this quote? It seems like they set up this site, let lots of people download from it, and now are preparing to drop the hammer.

Okay, I understand how Microsoft used monopoly powers to push Internet Explorer to dominance. They're doing the same thing now with Media Player and MSN Messenger.

But, those three products are free. Did they stifle the competition to get Windows and Office to dominance?

I understand it perfectly. I also understand that the anti-trust laws are really quite stupid anyway. "Unfair pricing" is the most subjective crock of bull I've heard in a while, and no-one was forcing anyone to sign those "stiff arm contracts". Bottom line, I think the government needs to get its hands off of the business sector. Let Capitalism run unfettered.

i wouldnt mind seeing a stop to piracy myself... as long as there was some way that prices would go down to compensate...

<< Too bad that Microsoft broke the law and developed a monopoly. >>

Actually, it is NOT illegal to develop a monopoly. What is illegal is using a monopoly to stifle competition, which MS got caught doing.

If Ashcroft is a Nazi, Janet Reno must be the devil! How many American Citizens have been slaughtered BY AMERICANS on his watch.

I've problems with some of his actions, but it is quite evident that the majority of Democrats and Republicans support his actions.

<< How many American Citizens have been slaughtered BY AMERICANS on his watch. >>

In all fairness, his watch hasn't been ticking very long yet.

Yes, their agreements with OEM companies was that if they wanted a contract with MS, they could not offer ANY other OS.

No one forces you to do anything, but they can force you out of business if you don't sign with them. And there is NO way, compaq, dell, gateway, or any other OEM could have survived if they did not offer MS Windows on their machines.
Cornering a market is not good practice. And has been shut down in the past.

Capatalism unfettered = the rich getting richer, and the poor staying poor and continually paying more for the same product.

<< how many threads are you going to start on this topic? >>

I have started 3 exactly. One was a vent post, one was a nef post, one was a informative post. You chose to take a cleveland steamer on my informative post. Did you even bother to take 5 minutes of your time to read the article before you took a steaming dump on my thread? Or are you that much of an a$$hole?

<< In all fairness, his watch hasn't been ticking very long yet. >>

Ascroft is on a roll! Reno took but 4 months to start the slaughter.

It's doubtful someone who can't even spell capitalism has anything useful to say on the subject.

<< Ashcroft is a Nazi, Janet Reno must be the devil >>

She is the devil, Tom! The comparison is interesting: I consider Reno's major fault a lack of action later in her term. I consider Ashcroft's major fault overaction early in his term.

<< It's doubtful someone who can't even spell capitalism has anything useful to say on the subject. >>

People that criticize someones spelling and do not participate in a discussion usually do not have anything useful to say on the subject. Or they just crap on the thread to raise a post count.

I am not arguing against capitalism at all. I live in America and I love our capitalist ways!
