Deportations come mostly from border, DHS chief says

boomerang

No surprise, the regime has been cooking the books on deportations. Has our political system become a total farce or is it just that I'm paying more attention as I get older and have more time to do so? I just don't remember the lying and deception being at this level. You can't trust anything our government says. It's not a lie until you catch me in the lie.

Deportations come mostly from border, DHS chief says

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson acknowledged Tuesday that his department’s deportation numbers are now mostly made up of illegal immigrants caught at the border, not just those from the interior, which means they can’t be compared one-to-one with deportations under President Bush or other prior administrations.

The administration has argued it is tougher on illegal immigration than previous presidents, and immigrant-rights groups have excoriated President Obama, calling him the “deporter-in-chief” for having kicked out nearly 2 million immigrants during his five-year tenure.

But Republican critics have argued those deportation numbers are artificially inflated because more than half of those being deported were new arrivals, caught at the border by the U.S. Border Patrol. Previous administrations primarily counted only those caught in the interior of the U.S. by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“Under the Obama administration, more than half of those removals that were attributed to ICE are actually a result of Border Patrol arrests that wouldn’t have been counted in prior administrations,” said Rep. John Culberson, Texas Republican.

“Correct,” Mr. Johnson confirmed.

then calculate the total number for deportations from before. do they have figures for the number of mexicans stopped at the border from previous years?

might as well count everything. obama might not of even been the one to make this decision. he definitly caught flak for it from the mexicans and even had to make up to them

Yet people will still parrot the "obama has deported more illegals than any other president" mantra. This was also revealed in one of the many lawsuits facing DHS.

I have a solution to stem the tide of invaders from central and south America. Simply threaten to send everyone back via a malaysia airlines cargo jet.

Texas will now be sending 1000 guardsmen to the border to defend it from the invaders. The primary mission for the federal government should be to protect the country -- it is obviously failing miserably in this regard, so it's up to the states to defend their border. Pretty sad state of affairs, and yet you'll still have idiots on the left touting the BS "but obummer has deported more 'undocumented' (ie, illegal) immigrants".

A thousand men... call me when we place 100,000 on the border.

Another faux scandal. Why are you trying to divert from Benghazi, you liberal shill?

The OP is simply pointing out the prevalence of low information voters on here. You know, the type responsible for electing obama a second time. The ones who also unilaterally believe obama's press secretary when he says obama has deported more illegals than any other president.

Despite the fact that illegal immigrants are by far not the most problematic issue concerning America.

Because surely the importation of millions upon millions of low skilled, impoverished people won't have ANY affect on the economy...

Tunnel vision. You has it.

I never said it was not some problem. I had only said that it is by far not the most concerning issue affecting America right now.

How dare Mexicans ever try to come close to claiming 5th place for destroying the prosperity of working class Americans.

How is importing cheap labor any different than exporting jobs? Whether it's produced here by illegals or in China, the effect is the same, increasing labor supply which drives down the value.
