It’s also not actually renaming the department. It’s frankly weird how much news coverage glosses over that.

It’s basically the government equivalent of telling people your pronouns.

Its not being renamed since that requires an act by that other branch of government...

The DOD was never the Department of War. The War Department was basically the US Army, and the Navy was a separate department. Reorganizing after WW2 moved both functions under the DOD.

Separately, how things are named relates to what we want them to do. The "Donald the Dove, Hillary the Hawk" headline for Maureen Dowd's article is always going to live forever in clowny infamy.

How long before he renames the country "Trumpland"? Or Washington DC as Trumptown (or Trumpton)? Surely one of his obsequious sycophants will introduce a bill to do that at some point?
