Fricken $926 for two fillings...TWO. She said to make it feel more "normal" to me, she had to shave away some of the teeth on either side of the one she was doing the filling on, and put whatever coating on all three. So of course, on the bill, I get billed once for each tooth, something like $150 each. Good thing insurance covers it, but geez, what a scam for an hour and 15 minutes of work. Hell, the supplies can't cost all that much, like $50 or something? She had to pay her helper I'm sure, maybe $100 for sitting there with the suction and water, so she made like $750 for about an hour of work.

I so need a job like that.

I'm not complaining about the quality of her work, she's quick and I can barely tell the difference between the coating and my normal teeth, no pain at all which is nice. It's just crazy how much this stuff costs, all a huge racket.

I don't know about that.

I got a cleaning last month(first time in quite a few years) all the dentist did was look at the Xray and asked if I ever had my wisdom teeth removed.

His assistant did everything else.

1. Get a Mechanical Engineering Degree (Because Mech E have high % acceptance into Med School)

2. Get into Med School.

3. Do all the necessary tests

4. Profit.

You have a profound understanding of doctors' work. Also, if you go the doctor b/c you have a cold, you need your head examined, but for other reasons.

I have a tooth that I need removed, my wisdom tooth. They said it has a cavity but they want to charge me 1k for it without putting me under. W t f? It's been a year and so far knock on wood it doesn't hurt.

& the last time I went to this dentist (last time I was at the dentist.) the bitch gave me an attitude because I didn't want an x-ray because I just went in for the cleaning. So she just did a half-ass job and basically told me to scram.

I don't have dental insurance. Dentist only become dentist to make money. I highly doubt any of them actually had a passion for helping people with their teeth growing up,

I still respect them, but I don't necessarily have to like them.

Something doesn't sound quite right to me there...
I have never heard of shaving away part of the opposing teeth during a filling unless they were also decayed. This "make it feel more normal" to you excuse is fishy.

Not saying your Dentist didn't do the right thing or a good job. I'm just not sure what to make of the shaving away of some of the teeth on either side.

Unless there is more to this or you aren't relaying the info correctly here it sounds to me like you got hosed if it was $926 for 2 fillings.

Could you post what the bill actually said?

She was probably evening out the bite. I switched to a better dentist a few years ago who did this and eventually it fixed a lot of jaw problems I was having.

she shouldn't have to adjust the bite on the other teeth only on the ones that are being filled, and it being a separate charge and a "coating" being put on them?

yeh, i need some more pieces to this puzzle.

Well, if you're like my friend, you'll get your 4 year health/biology/whatever degree, then work part time while having a part time job at a dental office of medical clinic and spend thousands of dollars in applications and flying all around hte country for interviews, then finally start goign to school while others are already at their jobs and making 3 times as much as you do.

Then in about 5 years you make more hten them, but still have to pay off all your loans except by then the friends have made partner and make more then you. Although working 3-4 days out of the week is nice.

I can post what the bill they gave me said, it doesn't mean much to me though:

COMP REST perm mol acid TH#26 $237.30
COMP REST perm bi acid TH#25 $167.10
COMP REST perm ant acid TH#12 $123.30
COMP REST perm ant acid TH#11 $155.90
COMP REST perm ant acid TH#13 $155.90
COMP REST perm ant acid TH#26 $123.30

Supposedly the two cavities were on th#12 and th#26, and when I run my tongue along my front teeth (th#11-13) I can feel that concrete-ish coating they use (no idea what it is) across three different teeth.

Exactly. There's a reason that dentists, doctors, etc. charge as much as they do: they deserve it. It's compensation for profits lost due to the furthering of their education.

he had the work done so he realized it was important. he is just unsure of what he was charged for.

anyways, it appears he had FIVE teeth filled with composite restoration material not TWO as he was under the impression. this changes my perception of the charge which now is quite normal.

According to that you had 5 teeth restored so you must've had 5 cavities. She may have drilled into the teeth that were obviously decayed and found the decay was actually in the opposing teeth too. Either that or she did sealant-type restorations (sealed up pits and fissures) on #11, #13, and #25 to prevent future decay.
