And in France quite recently they were still measuring bathing suits to ensure compliance with the government's length requirements. Ensuring they don't cover too much is no less a waste of police time, and pretty much as undignified a situation for the state to be in, as ensuring they don't cover too little.

Photos 90 years apart, but to me they look equally absurd and a waste of police time.

(and, yes, I think the burkini is a silly garment, but what next - the 'fun' police, arresting anyone who isn't sufficiently enjoying themselves?)

The burkini is just idiotic, burkas dont belong in France. If people are that concerned about showing skin at the beach then maybe dont go. If someone were to go outside with their face covered it would be wrong and people would be concerned, the same thing applies to the burka especially since its not part of the religion.

For a lot of young muslims in europe that wear Burkas its nothing different than long hair in the 60s or white Tshirts in the 50s or bell bottoms in the 70s. They want to be different that want people to look at them, not all mind you but many and I don't care if you don't believe me now get off my lawn!
