Although I hate the fact that the crew got cycled for this and could have been home earlier the angst it is causing the Bush hating pole smokers like flavio and supertool almost makes it worthwhile.

You are telling me keeping a carrier waiting for Dubya, the security, the fuel for his plane, and the chase plane, etc was free? Since when is nuclear fuel free?

First of all, it's not wrong until it cost $1 million? The pres can do whatever he wants as long as it costs under that?
So what your telling me is that a president landing on a carrier is wrong? Why, exactly? What if this so-called photo op only cost the fuel in the jet? The President, as part of his duties, expends alot of jet fuel during his term. Is every time he takes the air "wrong"?
He wanted to give a speech using the backdrop of a carrier and a happy crew. I hardly see anything morally objectionable about that. Of course, you do, simply because of the effect on Bush's image, nothing more. That's petty, but being petty is pretty much all you've got so you might as well use it, eh?

LOL, the desperation is almost comical.
Security? Would it have been any less if Bush were simply in Dearborn Michigan instead of a military aircraft carrier? No.
The cost for the fuel of the chase plan. OK, I'll give you that. It cost what, maybe a couple hundered dollars in jet fuel, you're really reaching into the desperation pot here.
OK, thus far we've established the cost of this "wrong" speech to be somewhere in the neighborhood of, what, maybe a grand?
Evidently you have a little grasp of how nuclear power works. The Lincoln, while in port, is still operational. The amount of fuel spent at sea while anchored is the same as at port. Nuclear powered reactors are not the equivalent of gasoline powered automobiles. Most likely the "nuclear fuel" was purchased years ago for this carrier and is good for well over 1 million miles. The cost in terms of "fuel" for the carrier, even assuming it was delayed a day, which it was not, would be mere pennies.
Ignorance and desperation. You wear them well.
..and where's the hypocrisy now? The ass sucking Bush lovers love to justify his actions by pointing elsewhere.
Not true. You are using a lot more fuel pushing that big bastard through the water than you are tied up. Not that you're critical when you're tied up because you're not.The amount of fuel spent at sea while anchored is the same as at port.

no brainer, why not ask the members of the Lincoln if they minded....as it really does not matter what you and I say.

Why not? Because they weren't paying for it. Our taxes were. The members of the Lincoln would probably not mind taking the carrier to the Bahamas for a cruise.
You have nothing to back up those number.
The point is, the military should not be used for political campaign photo-ops.

You want to know what hypocrisy is? It's all the liberals that have suddenly come out of the woodwork screaming about the "poor sailor" who got stuck at sea for another day. The same people who for years have been screaming for DoD cuts to fund their favorite welfare program, the same people who could give a fsck about anyone wearing a uniform. That is the very epitome of hypocrisy.

Experience tells me and e-mails from the ship tell me that the answer is. . . be home instead of hosting the CinC. Sorry.

And you've provided something to back up your number? Where?
Here is a fact: The carrier was still fully operational in port. The "nuclear fuel" purchased for the reactor was bought when the carrier was constructed and will never be completely spent before the carrier is decommissioned.
The only additional cost for this so-called photo op is the cost of the fuel used in the Viking planes that ferried Bush to the carrier. If Bush would have made this speech anywhere, the security would have cost the same, but most likely more.
So, once again, I'll ask. Where does this $1 million bill come from? Where?
The point is, the military should not be used for political campaign photo-ops.
Your point might be thoughtfully considered if you weren't a hypocrite about it.
Where was your outrage?

How do you know if I was or wasn't outraged. You are making assumptions about my feelings about Clinton. You don't know my position on Clinton's military dealings. Personally, I think Kosovo was a huge mistake. You just want to divert attention and blaming Clinton. Typical GOP tactic.
I am estimating $1 Million, it might have been more, might have been less, but whatever it was it wasnt' zero. Unless you can provide evidence of the exact cost, my guess is as good as yours.
Considering it costs $1Billion/day to run our military even without war, I don't think $1Million figure is out of the ballpark. But continue trolling about details, without adressing the principal problem of using the military for political gains.
