Chucky.. what he is advocating is revolution, which is the end of a government. Of course he is view is very *ahem* over dramatic to say the very least. There are other ways to bring change that doesn't result in graves. We aren't living in the past where the only way to change the power of those in control was that way. <snip>

I don't disagree with many of your proposals, the problem is, they're never going to happen, because the corrupt system that is in place will never allow it. Sure, there might be a non-corrupt person in that system who tries to change things, but, their proposals will be quashed - or just not even get off the ground.

So if the system will not fix itself, what other solutions are there?

I didn't arrive at the one I advocate because I'm nuts (I'm not), I arrived at it because to truly rid ourselves of the corrupted bought and paid for representatives we have - and will only ever be allowed to have via voting - that is the only solution that has any possible chance of succeeding.

Things are no where bad enough as a nation right now for what I advocate to happen, happen. Give us 30-50 years though...things will have hit the sh1tter by then where the national atmosphere will be right enough to start taking action and having even the slimmest chance of success. Too bad Rome will be burning by that point.... :(

Ok, you have a problem with me trying to take an efficient solution to the problem...I can understand that given your leanings, you are for Gov, so you don't want efficiency.

I can compromise though on this: I'll sign up for 1, and then we'll open it up to anyone else that feels the same way I do: Limit one politician per non-politician US taxpayer.

You are making it sound like I'm waaaayyy out there on my thinking. But I will bet you we'd need Millions of Politicians to satisfy that demand. EDIT: On second thought, I'd make that 10's of Millions of Politicians you'd need...much more accurate I believe.

You have some perverse love of Politicians I fear...you wouldn't happen to be a Poly Sci student or something would you?

Chuck

Don't want efficiency? What the hell is wrong with you? I don't want murder. Not only from a moral standpoint because I'm a decent human being, but because the murder of every member of Congress would be an unmitigated catastrophe for our country, and it would lead to the dissolution of our institutions and general chaos. Unless you think that countries are usually better for having a coup than without one. (here's your answer: they aren't.)

I'm not sure what's up with all of your bizarre projections as to me having a 'perverse love' of politicians, or loving inefficiency, or whatever. That's more crazy talk. Congress operates in much the same way now as it always has, and this same system of legislation has heavily contributed to the US becoming the most powerful and prosperous country the world has ever seen.

You appear to dislike the policies being set by this body at the moment and so your answer is mass murder. Not only does that make you a repellent human being, but your 'solution' wouldn't even fix the problems that you think exist. Whatever problem you have is with our system, not the people in it... and guess what: our system is the best and most stable that has ever been devised. If you don't like it, killing the people in it won't make it better any more than shooting your mailman will lower the price of stamps.

Come on man, in the back of your head there must be a little voice telling you 'hey, maybe this is a dumb idea'. Why don't you listen to it. Why don't you go try to fix the system instead of childishly enacting murder fantasies in your head? How old are you, 12?

Don't want efficiency? What the hell is wrong with you? I don't want murder.

First, it's not murder as I explained previously, it's killing. Second, I don't want it either. Barring Congress fixing the system they themselves are allowing, what other recourse do we have? No realistic one unfortunately. :(

Not only from a moral standpoint because I'm a decent human being,

That's nice but meaningless.

but because the murder of every member of Congress would be an unmitigated catastrophe for our country,

Why?

and it would lead to the dissolution of our institutions and general chaos.

Why?

Unless you think that countries are usually better for having a coup than without one. (here's your answer: they aren't.)

I didn't say anything about a coup. Did I say the POTUS - much as I dislike the current one - needed to go? No, I did not.

I'm not sure what's up with all of your bizarre projections as to me having a 'perverse love' of politicians, or loving inefficiency, or whatever. That's more crazy talk.

Crazy because it's true, or, crazy because you have an admiration for Congress? I asked if you were a Poly Sci or like type student for a reason. I'm 31 and work do IT PM-type stuff...I really have no clue what you do so it's hard to gauge if you're a brainwashed romantic love of Congress uni student, or someone who actually is grounded in reality. I know you were in the Navy...that really doesn't mean much (I do thank you for your service) though.

Congress operates in much the same way now as it always has, and this same system of legislation has heavily contributed to the US becoming the most powerful and prosperous country the world has ever seen.

WWI, WWII, and our Nation is the reason we've become so powerful and prosperous...please, attributing this to Congress is one of the largest stretches I've ever seen here on P&N.

You appear to dislike the policies being set by this body at the moment and so your answer is mass murder.

It is not I that dislike Congress, it is 10's of Millions of Americans. It is not this 'moment', it has been going on for far too many generations now. If you can give me a realistic solution to fix the problem, I'll be happy to weigh it against mine - as I'd agree, mine would be last resort. Please however do not tell me about voting in new representation: That doesn't work when the candidates allowed to run need Millions, voting lines are scuplted, etc. etc. Don't tell me that Congress will eventually fix their own problems. For example, you've told me in other threads in the past that Congress is able to do multiple things at once, so, wasting inordinate amounts of time on 8 lawyers the Bush Admin cut loose is no big deal...Congress can multitask. Funny though: Not one of the major issues I listed...not one...has Congress even come close to solving. So clearly, Congress cannot accomplish wiping after taking a sh1t.

Not only does that make you a repellent human being, but your 'solution' wouldn't even fix the problems that you think exist.

Well, I think Congress needs a wakeup call and that it'll never fix itself. So Yes, my solution would absolutely send that message. If doing that so as to correct the course of decisions Congress makes for this country is what it takes, then so be it. If that's 'repellent' to you, I'll lose lots of sleep over that I'm sure.

Whatever problem you have is with our system, not the people in it... and guess what: our system is the best and most stable that has ever been devised.

Again, uou keep saying 'you', as I'm in the singular. Perhaps here on ATPN, in this thread, so far, that's the case. There are 10's of Millions out there though, please realize that. Thanks.

Second, I don't have a problem with the 3 branches, aka system of government, I have a problem with the system that has come to rule the branch I advocate cleaning out: Congress. You seem to be confused on that.

So when you make the argument that our system is the best and most stable devised, you're entirely right. Thing is, I never said it wasn't, not sure who you're trying to debate with there.

If you don't like it, killing the people in it won't make it better any more than shooting your mailman will lower the price of stamps.

Poor analogy. The price of stamps isn't deciding the fate of the country, Congress is. If I don't like the price of stamps, I can go and ship elsewhere. If I don't like Congress, what? Vote another corrupt politician in? Vote perhaps an honest one in, and watch as nothing happens?

Come on man, in the back of your head there must be a little voice telling you 'hey, maybe this is a dumb idea'. Why don't you listen to it. Why don't you go try to fix the system instead of childishly enacting murder fantasies in your head? How old are you, 12?

It's not a great solution, you are right. Unfortunately, it will likely be the only realistic solution available to us (us being the average American). You give me a realistic alternative solution, and I'd be happy to buy into it. Again though: Voting in alternate corrupt politicians - not a solution. Praying Congress fixes itself - not a solution. Protesting (writing letters, shouting in the streets) - not a solution.

What's your solution?:
