Democrats begin a filibuster on Estrada

Is it a good idea for the party of diversity to be filibustering a hispanic candidate judge.

They didn't seem too shy about putting Thomas Clarence through the wringer, and he's african-american, so i don't see why they'd treat a hispanic any different.

I believe they're treating him by his views, not the color of his skin. The Republicans should be happy.

I have no doubt, but I doubt it will be good for their minority base.

It depends on how his views would effect them. Funny that Republicans would make the race ticket an issue.

If this bothers you,see who votes against him or who is a party to the Fillibuster and if he's a representitive for you district of state vote accordingly.

Wrong, plenty of Hispanics are actually mobilizing against this Estrada guy. Not just for views, but because he has very light experience to be apointed as a judge in the most important district appeals court.

Exactly . . . kind of like Lani Guinier . . . I guess the GOP hates uppity high yellow women.

. . . kind of like Bill Lann Lee . . . I guess the GOP hates uppity Asians.

. . . kind of like James Hormel . . . I guess the GOP hates homosexuals . . . :Q

realistic perspective on how Hispanics view Estrada.

Personally, I think Bush should be able to appoint right of center judges but he should reject "activist" judges who practice de facto legislation from the bench. Regardless, judges should prove themselves to be loyal to the law (and the Constitution) on lower levels before they are appointed to lifetime positions.

Yeah but what will the Dems do when Bush nominates a black republican woman to the USSC, after Reinqhuest retires. Huh, what are they going to do. Deny the first black woman a spot on the USSC because shes a republican?

By the sugesstions in this thread that race is playing an issue I can only conclude you think your smart, right. Probably good looking too and can bench 400 lbs. You go with your dilusional selves boyz.

Yes and Justice Ginsburg had just as much experiance when she was appointed to the appeals court she served on before becoming a justice in the USSC.

I'm not the one who raised the question of whether race is an issue in this, i'm simply responding to it. My being dumb as a fence post, hideous as the troll under the bridge, and unable to bench the bar much less 400# has nothing to do with it.

Are you nominating Connie Rice . . . Condolezza's cousin? She's a liberal civil rights attorney . . . I don't see it happening.

There is more than one black female qualified conservative judge....

While our country has a problem with our judicial system and not enough judges to get the job done right the democrats are busy dicking around and making this a political issue, what a bunch of bastards. As for manly claiming alot of hispanics are campaigning against Estrada, thats bull. Most democrats who support putting him in office are hispanics. The democrats havent done anything for hispanics why should we stay with them. Its up to us to do for ourselves.

Can you guys honestly say that if the democrats were trying to put in any non-white person into the USSC and the republicans were filibustering, that the democrats wouldn't be crying racism awhole lot louder?

I don't care what color this guy is, he doesn't deserve the position. Besides, a liberal court is better for the nation anyway. No bible-based decisions.
