Delta airlines welcomes Soldiers home

CNN has an article on this..

Stars&Stripes too..

The soldiers may have been misinformed about the contract as it relates to traveling active duty military personnel.

Active military personnel flying in coach on travel orders are only allowed to check three bags free of charge, Delta said on its website. Active military traveling in first or business class may check up to four bags for free.

You would think the agent would break the rules and just let them check 4 bags anyway.
There could be software limits that required the policy be enforced.
I can guarantee Delta won't let this happen again.

It's such bad press~ why would they differentiate like that between business/first class vs economy for the soliders.

how many soldiers will actually fly business/first class ?

I've always found it funny that we send our troops to war in commercial airliners.

I guess it makes financial sense, but still, it just seems funny. Do we also fed-ex our munitions over?

I've met a few. They were usually officers though, or they got bumped up for free.

This looks like a miscommunication. 3 bags in coach, 4 in business\1st. So what does Delta do to alleviate this issue? Increase each by 1. What a bunch of morons. Make it the same across the board so these types of miscommunications dont happen again when a soldier flying coach tries to check 5 bags because that is what he was told he could do.

One step closer to privatizing our military.

Faster, cheaper, and more comfortable than sending them home in a C130 😀

I mean in all honesty, it wasn't REALLY Delta's fault unless they were the ones who told the soldiers how many bags they could check...I'm assuming it wasn't them and it was their superior officer or whoever. Also, the government will reimburse all the soliders for their extra checked baggage fee.

Still...the Delta employee checking the bags should have been a little more compassionate and let them go at least realizing what a huge PR nightmare it would be to charge soldiers returning home from war extra baggage fees lol...reminds me of the dolt at Starbucks who charged firefighters full price for water during 9/11.

So you think the military should keep regular scheduled flights to everywhere in the world? Interesting.....

If there is a military flight, they are supposed to take that, otherwise commercial airlines it is.

As for the bags, my mom worked for continental. I can't speak for Delta's system but my mom regularly broke the rules in cases like this. It is called customer service.

She's smart, unlike the people who were working the counter at Delta that day.

You know you're in too many wars when your military needs regularly scheduled flights all over the world.

Generally speaking, if your job is to regularly man a computer terminal; overriding the computer or making exceptions to policy based on your own judgment is well above your pay grade.
