TurtleMan, the deal posted on FW only mentioned the coupon but did not explain it all in detail, and mention the rebate all in one post. The idea of using the 50 dollars off coupons 3 times was not mentioned on that forum until I brought it up.

BUMP!!! This deal is HOT!!!

I just executed this deal at my local CC. No problemo. I've been listening to XM for 3 days now and I know I'll never go back to AM/FM (unless XM folds). This deal is almost as hot as the free TiVo deal at CC 2 years ago. Who remembers FREE TIVO??

I decided today that I was going to purchase the Delphi XM Radio after my Dr's appointment that I had at 8:40AM today. I was prepared with three different coupons (All old coupons which listed the unit, car adapter & home adapter on the coupon before they changed it). I was also prepared to wait in checkout line from HELL! While I was seeing my Dr., I told him that I was on my to Best Buy to purchase the Delfi XM Radio just in time for my drive down to Florida for my vacation (12/28/2002 - 1/04/2003). To my surprise, he hands me a Best Buy gift card in the amount of $100 to thank me for helping him out with his computer problems by phone whenever they occur--SWEET!! $100 Best Buy Gift Card!!!!! I thank him and headed off on my way.

Walked in to a nearly empty store and back to where the units were. I asked the salesperson if I could use all 3 coupons and he said, "No problem!" He told me that they don't have any of the home adapters in stock but they do have the car adapter and unit. He walked me up to the checkout and handed to the clerk and showed her how to ring it up. (Can it get any better that this????) I walked out of Best Buy spending $6.98 out of my pocket for the two units:

Tuner $129.99 - $50 off coupon = $79.99
Vehicle adapter kit $69.99 - $50 off coupon = $19.99
It came out to $99.98 + $7.00 with tax for a total of $106.98 - $100 gift card (Thanks Doc!) = $6.98!!!!!!

I checked this fourm and used this to activate the radio:

Promotional code for free activation and 3 months of free service:
GM112XDLR

Here's the link that I used for activation:
http://www.gm.com/beyond_automotive/xmradio/index_current.htm

Don't activate over the phone. They won't let you do it unless you'r e activating for a GM Car.
NOTE - This code was only for a new activation with a preinstalled XM Radio in a GM car--BUT IT WORKED!!!

I got home and ordered the Delphi XM Modulator thru Crutchfield for $49.99. (They are expecting them in 1/6/2003.) I didn't score a home adapter kit and I won't be able to use it on my drive to FL (My head unit plays MP3's but it isn't XM ready. It's the Sony Xplod CDX-MP450X which plays MP3's) Maybe I'll thow the Sony unit on E-Bay for $100 and buy one that's XM Ready so I can test it out with the drive to FL??? I dunno, I haven't decided yet.....

Other than that, I GOT A GREAT DEAL!!!!!

Thanks for the info!!!!!!

Check your credit card statements. Others who illegally used this code have been charged the full activation and monthly fee. You're better off using the 1 month free / free activation that is for anyone to use.

I just wanted to update you guys just a little about the status of the coupon for me. I just got back from my local best buy and bought another car adapter kit and used the coupon successfully. It wasn't a problem checking out, except they couldn't scan the coupon like before and had to enter in the code manually. But I got this second one for our other vehicle, so we can just swap out the tuner card whenever we want easily. :)

did the same thing. since my wife liked the set-up in my truck, i bought another car kit for her van. saves me time and energy installing and uninstalling it on a vehicle.

BTW,bradolson, thanx for the info RE: GM coupon. that's all i need to know.:)

Just bought the IROCK adapter at Radio Shack for $29.99 to use until my FM modulator arrives from Crutchfield. The adapter does it's job well but I think for my road trip from Philadelphia to Orlando (Which I have scheduled on 12-28) I will have to stock up on AAA batteries! Heck, if this is how the FM modulator from Crutchfield works (With a little static) I might just cancel the Crutchfield order and buy some rechargable AAA batteries. Anyone else using the IROCK?

My BB has an open unit for $99 with no manual or remote. Would I be missing much if I dont get these? I figure $100 - 50 coupon - 50 rebate = free for a little inconvience. Are there a lot of functions on the remote? I have an old TV w/out the remote and its a huge hassle! Thanks!

Yeah, I believe in that philosophy, but highly compressed digital audio is not CD quality anyway. It's a reasonable compromise if you lack an 'aux' jack, especially in a car environment given the quality of average car audio electronics. You will get slightly better results with the cassette adaptor but the difference may not be worth having all those wires around your dash (remember this is a strong FM signal since it is located close to your car radio).

At home, you can enjoy the music at the full quality possible with the compression/bitrate they use by hooking it up to an amp.

Overall the major improvement with these satellite services is the variety of content as opposed to sound quality (which is still likely going to be better than average FM radio reception, but it isn't the major benefit imho). Also the best thing is the ability to discover new music and just read the artist and title off the display, and I believe that some models will actually let you save artist and title info so you can go out and buy the CD later.

This is a hot deal, I really don't want to have an other montly fee to be paying but this is tempting.

If you are really worried about the rebate just buy the receiver without the coupon and keep the original receipt and try to have them apply the coupon with a copied receipt. I'm not sure if they will have a problem with that because all they do is just scan the bar code on the top of the coupon. Just say you copy all your receipts for your records and you can't find your original receipt. You will likely get the $50 off and have a good proper receipt for the rebate. But I think even when they do an adjustment for a coupon they sometimes return your original receipt.

I just bought 2 Home Adapter Kits from Best Buy last night (So they are still honoring the "Old" coupon). I printed out 2 of the $50 rebates a few days ago (The link was on here that list all three Delphi products with the blank name--I think the link was taken down... ). After standing in line for about 20mins I got up to the clerk and he looked at them and took $100 the total! (Paid $39.98 + Tax for both) Now I have the Delphi unit, the Car Adapter Kit and 2 Home Adapter Kits (One for home and one for the office). I have been using the IROCK adapter that I bought from Radio Shack a few days ago because the head unit that I have in my car will only work with an FM Modulator. I have the Sony CDX-MP450X which is the first unit that Sony produced that plays MP3's + CDR-W's LINK. I am leaving on Friday to drive from Phila., PA to Orlando, FL and it should make the drive down more enjoyable with the Delphi set up with the FM Modulator. When I get back from vacation I am going to replace the CDX-MP450X with the Sony CDX-MP70 because it has an AUX input. I know people have various opinions on FM Modulators but here's mine--They are horrible! It takes so much away from quality of the music. I want the clarity that I heard from a directly wired unit. It's like day and night comparing a direct wire unit to the FM Modulator! I am going to ebay my old unit for $100 when I get back from vacation. It served it's purpose. I bought the 450X when it first came out. Time to upgrade... Just my two cents!

Well I am now set with XM, I have a kit for both cars a couple rooms in my house and the office. I really hope that I like it, we will see after my free month. If I don't like it, I will unload the kits and radio. I just wish that Howard Stern was on XM. I am looking forward to my next roadtrip so that I can test it. I have a new son and I am hoping to expose him to a wide variety of music, XM may help.

Lets keep an eye out for deals on the boombox, that looks cool and is already priced at a reasonable $99.

I have not seen, but then again I haven't looked that hard, but does anyone know if XM gives discounts for multiple radio subcriptions.

XM has just received a large cash infusion to help it break even, and the stock is on the rise, lets hope that it survives. Promotions like this will help get them more in the black. The closer to free the equipment gets, the better chances of subscribers.

another note, did you know that XM is available over the internet for subscribers, good for those with broaband. My office frowns on streaming audio, but I can listen at home without a radio or kit.
