Dell question - updated - really pissed now

Is there any possible way to change the shipping options after I already placed my order? I want it to arrive earlier than it's scheduled to.

Try giving them a call. Also, with ground shipping my two computers arrived three days ahead of the scheduled delivery date.

I tried calling, but it seemed like I would still be on hold by the time my Axim arrives (Jan 7th).

It normally takes 3-7 days for them to build the machine, then add on your shipping times. For example if you get 2 day shipping it will take 5-9 business days to send. If you fork over tons of money get overnight shipping it comes to your door in 4-8 business days. You just end up paying a whole ton of money for next to no gain in speed.

How long can it take them to "build" an Axim?

Here are two quotes from Dell:

1) "Axim Handhelds usually ship in 5-7 days."

2) "'Usually Ships' represents the estimated time it takes to process your order and fill your software or peripheral item. It does not include additional time needed to build your system if you ordered a computer along with software and peripherals." Add the shipping length to this estimate to find out when you'll likely receive the package.

So it is 5-7 days for them to process your order and get it to the shipping company. Then lets look at their shipping options:
1) $0 for 3 day ground shipping, total length 8-10 days.
2) $15 for 2nd day shipping, total length 7-9 days.
3) $25 for next day shipping, total length 6-8 days.

There is very little difference between 8-10 days, and 6-8 days in my opinion and certainly not worth $25. You may be in a big hurry though, so your situation may warrant that.

I see, thanx for the info. I placed my order on the 20th, and it won't ship untill the 7th. But you're probably right, it's not worth $25.

This is rediculous. I ordered it 10 days ago, and it wont ship for another 7 days! If I would've only realized how long it was when I ordered.....

Just wait till you have to deal with their tech support.... Absolutely horrendous...

<--- Has been trying to get his laptop picked up for service for over 2 weeks. They FINALLY came today.

Since when did dell move its technical support to India?

Since when did dell move its technical support to India?

Since it became cheaper to employ them than Americans.

I hope to never deal with their tech support, all I ordered was an Axim.

I hung up and called back over 6 times today. Having to explain what the word 'supervisor' means, wasnt in my agenda for the day.

Wonderful what the world is coming to. English tech support people that don't speak English.

theres actually still a lot of US based dell support. just not L1 for home or small biz users who usually did something stupid that any of us could fix in... 5 minutes.

as for changing shipping... it may be possible with the axim, since its an in-house dell thing. most of the accessories stuff is drop shipped from the distributor so changing the shipping is basically impossible without canceling the order. might want to try customer service to see.

I'm on hold again...................

:| OK, now I'm really pissed. I called Costumer Care, waited on hold for 25 minutes, then they tell me it wont ship untill the FOURTEENTH! That's insane! I ordered it on the twentieth of December. That is WAY to long. I dont know of another place in the world that can stay in business with shipping time a frigging month from when you place the order. So I ask them if I can change my shipping options. She says, sure, you can pay an additional $30 for next day. I ask her if that means it'll be here tommorow (if so I'd do it in a sec), she says no, it'll be here the day after it ships, which is the Fifteenth. That's crazy. That's $30 so it should get here 2 days earlier. I'm pissssssssed. :|

/end rant

I once ordered a digital camera (Sony P9) from them. They bumped my shipping back over and over again, until i had already waited about a month and a half. I eventually cancelled the order and just bought it locally. Elfenix can vouch for that as well, he was tryin to help speed up my order, but dell wouldnt budge.

I can say without a doubt that i will never buy another product from Dell. No matter how cheap the price. The level of service and support you recieve isnt worth it IMO.

yep, dell works that way... stupid eh? the website seems to have hard coded lead times that usually correspond to actual lead times but at other times seem to have no basis in reality. wouldn't trust that date they gave you either... the ordering system seems to have no clue how many are on order vs how many are being made... for one of the companies thats supposed to be on the cutting edge of supply chain management it hasn't helped their ability to accurately predict when something will be shipped.

I'm not quite there yet, but probably will be soon. :|

Crazy. At least inform me of the shipping change. Not that it would help one bit, but it's a halfway professional thing to do.

heh...I odered an Alienware laptop (I know sagar makes them, but sagar does not have those colors) and then they called me to tell me that I would have to wait a month for it. My first response...."Do I get a discount?". He thought I was joking. Needless to say I canceled the order. Dam, really, a months wait is to long for anything, I do not care what it is.
