I bought a dell 2407 lcd a little over a yr ago off of ebay. Everything was fine with it for several months until one day I turned it off and never could turn it back on. It was actually just the power button that was broke. It no longer had a "detent" in it. It was almost like the button was stuck in the off position. Nevertheless I contacted the seller and he gave me the business # for dell as well as his order # and everythinng went smooth in regards to exchanging it under warranty after that.

now, here i am, months later with the exact same issue. Has anyone dealt with dell on multiple warranty claims? The original lcd had a 3 yr warranty. I never thought to ask when I set it up the first time if that warranty was transferrable, etc. Dell Business is closed today so I won't get to talk to them until tomorrwo morning. Just wanted to see if anyone had gone through similar or knew what dell usually does in this situation.

I hope you are right. I was thinking they might only offer a 90 day (or some other rediculous time frame) warranty on the replacement that I received. I know that's what Western Digital did to one of my raptor hard drives.

warrantee doesn't transfer owners in general.
you won't have proof of purchase from dell.

It didn't change owners. Well, unless you are talking about the guy I bought it from off of ebay. He owns a business and is a reseller. That shouldn't be an issue.

Unless the eBayer is an official Dell Reseller, then Dell would consider the monitor as "used" when you bought it from eBay. However, Dell has provisions for transferring warranties. The original purchaser has to perform this action.

Regardless, the normal behavior of a manufacturer is to warranty a replacement item for the remainder of the warranty of the ORIGINAL item. If you have a three-year warranty and get a replacement after a year, the replacement has a two-year warranty.
