Dell just refunded me for a product I haven't returned yet.

You ignored one of my examples. Stealing is stealing? Your starving kids might have something to say about that.

Are your kids starving? If you need money, why not just ask for it? There are lots of people who would give willingly, so that you don't have to steal.

Thats not the point... I agree with jtusa here... if you say "stealing is stealing" then "killing is killing" and "x is x" with whatever you come up with, you just cant say one is and the other isnt... people always fall into the double standard trap...

PLUS, in this situation its hard because... first he already spend lots of time trying to return it, and then you have the question "for 20$ its not worth it" , but then again, if 20$ isnt worth it for him, its much less worth it for the company... so this morality think is overdone... just do what you feel like and forget about it :)

In this case, it's clear that stealing IS stealing. There's no double standard about it - he got his money back already.

He doesn't have to spend any more time than what it takes to put the item back in the box and mail it. I provided the address above.

He can put a 1 cent stamp on the box, and the post office will ask Dell to pay the rest of the postage owed so that they can get their package.

You got your money back, send them their product.

Yeah, send it back, but have it billed to them. I wouldn't pay out of pocket, especially if you've already made a couple attempts to get a return label.

Interesting thread... have you guys ever thought that the Dell reps did it on purpose? For a $20 item, which probably includes shipping, so let's say $15, is it worth their time to have someone receive it, get it to the proper person, test it to see if it works, if it doesn't then send it back, otherwise repackage it and relist it as a refurbished/used/whatever product. On the lowered price, they then also have to deal with the whole selling process again - they've got credit card fees, packaging/shipping material, and then they have to support the product again, on the lowered price.

A lot of times they really don't care if you keep the product, they'd rather just refund it and end the story. If they never get products back that they already refunded, they can just write those off for taxes. Also, maybe after realizing he's made so many phone calls and such they thought about just refunding it?

While I applaud the AT'ers who say to send it back, I'm not sure that anything will happen, Dell might get it and just toss it in the dumpster, no joke.

I say keep the money. In 2002, their Dell finance company stole up to $180 for not changing my address and charging me overage fees; while I emailed, #ph, and changed on the back of the mailer for change of address for over 6months. I did not see a single dime in return for their mistake or them even fixing my address and where I had to pay a full amount.

If Karma is really at play here. It's destined that I see this post on the forum and tell you what comes around, goes around.

Did you call up your CC company?

Was the address wrong at the time of order? They confirm where it ships to in the order process and would like to think you did.
