I really hope that survey wasn't rigged but I would love to see Dell offer AMD so I participated in the survey.

LOL!;) I figured as soon as I got the email that this was just going to turn out to be another way for "Big Mike" to shoot down AMD!;)
#1) All the Dell faithful buyers are receiving the poll
#2) They will turn the numbers any which way they can to boost Intel and the PIV!;)

MHO is just avoid the poll because the numbers are going to be twisted.......bet on it!!;);)

Conspiracy theorys abound!

My guess is that Dell made a mistake and doesn't know it. Probably stuck a new html programmer on making the page.

Even if this IS intentional, it's already been discovered. And in the case that Dell comes out saying "A survey of internet users concludes that the pentium 4 is the prefered processor of choice," there will be outcry from the AMD scene. Once it's featured on a site like ZDNet and gets max coverage, they'll renig on the results and blame it on programming. Just like MS did with smart tags.

:) i tried to give good answers

i like both amd and intel, but since i really do want dell to start making athlon/duron systems i decided to really favor the athlon

I must say, this poll, assuming Dell takes it seriously(which they should considdering they're the ones who put it up), surely bumped them up a notch on my respected companies list.

Companies that actually takes input from their(potential) customers, now that I like ;)

I'm @work on an aging Dell Optiplex running winNT4.0 SP2 (crapola) where the only browser we have, by company standards, is Netscape. IE doesn't have firewall priviledges.

Anyway, when I look at the survey in Nutscrape 4.0 (ugh, it really sux) I don't get question #6 at ALL!

I did look at the code and I'd be very surprised if someone didn't write it VERY specifically like this. It would be hard to use an html editor and fvck it up this bad, and, if you were hand-writing the code you'd obviously know better and would have caught it.

It's rigged, folks, plain and simple. I find it nearly 100% improbable that this was a 'mistake' on Dell's part. If you think so, you're a bafoon. Ok, ok, enough with the name calling ;)

I didn't look at the code myself, just giving Dell the benefit of a doubt.

Even if we do see AMD winning out, how much you want to bet that Dell publicly states the form was bad, that a "programming error" kept it from working correctly. And if it does show Intel with an edge, well, they've won then too. It's a no lose situation for Dell.

Hmm, since its rigged I guess I cast my vote for the PowerPC. ;) Seriously, though, why would anyone say they want the P4 less than either the Celeron, PowerPC, Duron, or P3? It is the the Athlon's closes competition, disregarding price of course.

Why do you think it is rigged????

I think they are tired of lackluster intel computer sells why amd can't seem to make chips fast enough for all the oem makers that do carry it. Since with an amd ddr setup versus a p4 can run near 300 dollars in price difference they may try to absorb a bit more profit and still not effect amd as having the lower cost.

Bottom line is, the company wants and needs to make money and will only look the other way so long before they get jealous of what the other oems are doing.

I think this may be to show intel the demand for them and maybe extort a bit more soft money from Intel...

I noticed that with question two and three. I made sure I answered the athlon as the one i would most prefer. For question 3, i didn't put anything and made it clear in the box that my least preferred choice was the celeron. Still, it probably won't make a difference now...

I've tried a few times now(hours apart) and keep getting "Document contained no data" when I hit submit.

From looking at the code, my vote is that the designer is just dumb and doesn't know what they are doing. There are a lot of mistakes throughout the page, not to mention that they never have an end form tag &quot;</form>&quot;.

Vote for bad page design....

A) This whole survey looks odd to me. Why would Dell post a survey that was so unprofessionally written and setup?

Also, I guess I still don't get why you guys would be so surprised if Dell decided to offer AMD's. Well, I suppose I do understand. You still think that Dell is being paid by Intel to offer Intel exclusively. * sigh *

The bottom line is that if Dell thinks they can profit by using AMD without damaging their reputation of quality, then they will.

Wingznut PEZ: i respect you, so dont take this personal.

its obvious dell has avoided using amd products, and i also think that saying &quot;stability issues and compatability problems&quot; was just an excuse they use but not anywhere near the truth or whole truth :)

i think VIA is more to blame for Athlons/Durons not being used than AMD is...

think about it... they have to test their computers with every single possible component configuration you can buy from them... it's hard enough to do that when you're only dealing w/ 3 chipsets but imagine throwing VIA into the mix... their stuff always has problems and new revisions/drivers come out too often to make it a feasible choice... you just can't expect the average Dell buyer to flash their BIOS or even upgrade drivers...

at least with Intel they make the chips and chipsets and have more $ to do thorough compatability testing...

this isn't the techy bang for buck arena... the average person would rather spend $100 more than to have issues that they won't know how to fix...

That's why the nforce idea looks cool, if you keep the exsisting vcard and dont upgrade it, one software package takes care of everything!
