Dell Complete Care and Crushed Laptop?

So basically, it was raining today and as I was walking down the steps of my train, I slipped and landed on my 710m. Now its crushed down the middle and the LCD is cracked in many places.

I have 301 days left on my Complete Care, am I good to call them and ask for a replacement or does falling and landing on your laptop not fall within the guidelines set for Complete Care.

I'm just confused because in the Complete Care contract it states coverage for:
Notebooks: Only the central processing unit, internal keyboard, internal hard drives, and the computer's built-in LCD are covered.

In my situation, the case is broken as well as the LCD. Also reading further on, it states that it covers spills and drops, but about me landing on top of it after I drop the laptop =X

Anyways, thanks for any replies Having such a terrible day.........

can't you just tell them you dropped it and something fell on it? it might sound better. i'm not sure if you're covered but i would say you are

DO NOT CALL THEM AND TELL THEM YOU SLIPPED AND FELL ON IT! THEY WILL DECLINE THE REPAIR.

I used to work as a tech at compusa and delt with warranty issues all the time. If you do anything accidental or on purpose to your computer, manufacturer will decline the repair.

If the screen mysteriously cracks, it is decilinded. If a usb port breaks off the board and falls into the laptop... declined.

Your best bet is to call them and say your monitor has stopped giving a display. They will ask you to do some diagnostics.. Tell them you have hooked up an external monitor to the computer and that works. This eliminates the fact that it is your motherboard. So your mb is good, an external monitor works, its just your lcd which is bad.

You know have to tell them to ship you the lcd rather than you ship the laptop to them. Push them for this and tell them you understand the risk involved on working on this. If you ship them or have a tech come to repair your monitor, they will see the damage and charge you for repairs.

Hope this helps

Um, Complete Care is basically insurance that you buy along with the warranty that is intended to cover stuff like this, spills, drops, and other damage that could happen. Most people won't ever need it, which is why they're willing to offer it.

OP, I hope you're able to get it fully repaired/replaced, as this is just the sort of thing that I would think Complete Care is intended for. You might need to embelish your story somewhat, which I don't think is wrong to do, considering this should be covered but probably isn't due to some fine print limiting their liability.

No.

What does he do if the motherboard was damaged in the fall?
Truth be told I've had much better sucess using honesty in this type of problem. You don't have to get into the specific details but don't lie about it either. Be honest, up front with the rep and you should get what you're looking for.

btw.. not speaking for myself but when looking for ways to "fool" a rep.. maybe don't post it on a public forum that Dell reps have access too.

Ok, honesty might be the best policy. I'm just telling you the experience I've had. 9/10 if you tell a manufacturer that there is a crack, chip or that a plug has broken off, the warranty is declined. If you read the fine print of warranties most cover only manufacturer defects and not accidental damages. I don't know if Dell has a special warranty that covers accidental damage and if they do, that is great and its the first I've seen.

As for the motherboard being damaged in the fall, if you replace the lcd and the mb is damaged, you call them back up, give them your old case number and say the motherboard was also damaged and I need a repalcement. They will ask you questions, yadda yadda yadda. For the mb you might be able to send that to them with a good lcd on and have them repair it, unless water got into the mb and its apparent. Again, if dell accepts that type of stuff, I might have to recommend Dell and there warranty, but again, that would be the first I've seen a manufactur offer a plan of that type.

EDIT: Since the warranty says it cover drops... say it was dropped and you should be good to go.

Yes, and that is what this thread is about. The OP has Dell's Complete Care coverage on top of the standard warranty.

So I called Dell regarding my laptop. They basically asked what the problem was and I replied that the LCD was cracked in a few places and the case was also cracked. The lady didnt go much into detail asking about how it occurred. So I guess I'm good =x Thanks guys!
