Dell 400SC w/ P4 2.4c back again for $274 AR + Tax

Question... how long (on average) to the Dell rebates take to go through? This with the P4 2.8ghz is $373 after rebate, but a refurb off of Dell outlet, 400sc and 2.8 (800) is $415 with no rebates.

I'm guessing these things are just great normal computers. I don't know how ocable the CPU is, but for the price, I think its actually cheaper than putting together your own barebone rig.

Dell rebates are usually pretty good compared to other companies - many people get theirs in a month, 6-8 weeks is probably more typical. I think mine came in 6 weeks.

As for OCability - not really. You can raise the FSB via software, but that will raise the PCI and AGP bus speeds as well, which can cause problems. From what I understand, the onboard sound in particular does not like to be out of spec.

As to what you use it for? Uh, what do you use your computer(s) for? Even though it's sold as a server, it has all the goodies of any barebone system you would put together yourself. It has an AGP slot, and is very quiet and runs cool. Like I said in the last thread, if you have spare parts laying around, this is a great deal. If you're going to have to purchase a lot of parts to bring it up to spec, you might want to look at another Dell special, like the 8300 for example.

The refurb will cost you $99 shipping.

Dell rebates are pretty good if you read and follow the instructions.

Average turn around time I'd say is 6 weeks from mailing rebate form to actually receiving the check.

My last 400sc rebate came in about 3 weeks. Wow was I suprised. You also have the added benifit of registering your rebate online. No stamp! That part is very cool.

Can you please give us the link to the rebate online registration?

I don't know about computer rebates but my SBC rebate came really fast, less than a month.

I just checked and the deal is still good.

$374 less $100 MIR.

Must resist. I already have one and I love it.

Dell basically charges you $100 to upgrade from 2.4 Ghz to 2.8Ghz (on a new system). I would just get the P4 2.4C and sell it and then pick up a slightly used retail P4 2.8 or 3.0 GHZ. A brand new OEM P4 2.4C goes for about $150 but a reasonable price that you could expect to sell one for would be about $120-135.

I just pulled the trigger on one. Now Im thinking that my girlfriend needs a computer too. Oh god please help me these forums are driving me to the poor house.

Can you guys provide a link to the rebate?

do these motherboards use dual channel memory (as in get more performance from 2 memory sticks vs. one)? and is there any combo right now you can do to get a deal on a good 17" LCD with this?

yes.

No, the 400SC is offered through small business, which generally doesn't do these kind of combos. Remember, this is technically a server, and other than LCD KVM setups, most servers end up with crappy monitors. 🙂

How did you guys get it to come down to $274? I applied the $100 rebate but that should only bring it down to $399 right? Sorry for the newb question but I really want this and can't get it to work. Help!!!
