Thanks for the link! Is the Dell 2007WFP available for order yet? I could only find the 2007FP. Any MSRP?

Thanks, Clandren. I was searching around earlier today for a review :)

I've been looking into buying the Dell 2007WFP within the next month or so, and I think that just closed the deal for me!

i'm glad i came across this review also :)
i'm sure i wasnt the only one that thought the 2007WFP probably would not have much improvement over the older model.. but seems like that isnt the case at all

Doesn't the 20WMGX2 have HDCP Support? And from their review the dell 2007 pwned the 20WMGX2...

That doesn't make sense. Maybe they didn't have the active DV turned on?

I think they have a flawed conclusion. The NEC is still superior and can display a wider color gamut according to their graphs. It also has more inputs. The screen also seemed more uniform. I guess they are just rating the Dell higher because it *doesn't* have a glossy screen and it's cheaper. There was some peculiar scaling they tried that didn't work on the NEC I guess, not that it really matters since your graphics card can do it.

Edit: I guess the Dell's color temperature tracking was more stable.

I didn't know that the NEC had a TV tuner built in. And I'm certain that the North American version is supposed to support HDCP. Also, some people are reporting that the 2007WFP does not support HDCP.

The reviewer didn't like the Glossy aspect on the Nec. This is pointed out in many reviews as a possible issue depending on the user.

I need a second monitor and thought about the Nec, but I think the Glossy surface is a killer for me.

The reviewer is a retard. The glossy technology (OptiClear) used by NEC (also used by other manufactures but give it a different name) gives the LCD the ability to display deeper blacks and more vibrant colors. You put the NEC beside the Dell 2007 and the Dell's colors will look dull. The guy obviously didn't like the glossy screen so he just gave the thumbs up to the Dell. Awful review.

And yes, the NEC 20WMGX2 is HDCP compliant (at least the US version is).
From Firingsquad:
To date, we have only identified 12 HDCP compliant monitors! Five are going to be featured in next week?s review (we?re still waiting on one of the monitors to arrive):

1. Gateway FPD2185W
2. HP f2105
3. NEC MultiSync 20WMGX2
4. Samsung SyncMaster 244T
5. Viewsonic VP2330wb

I showed this Monitor (in a store) to my wife this morning and she decided against it. Reason: the reflection on the screen. She is very picky about this things.....without her seal of approval, I can't buy one.

Yeah, I think the NEC would leave the others in the dust because of that coating alone. What do these "labs" that the reviewers do their testing in look like? I have a feeling they have a lot more ambient lighting than most normal rooms in typical house. (THG also criticizes the coating because of the reflections)

That coating makes such a big difference IMO that those LCDs are probably the only ones I would ever consider buying.

Some people on the forums have reported different findings when contacting Dell. I saw a couple that were told it does not support HDCP, while others were told it does.

What makes things really bad concerning HDCP is that there's not real way to test if it does actually comply. For all we know the ones that supposedly do support it might actually not, or maybe don't fully support it. Its a mess to be sure.

Just do a search for 2007 and look at the threads, I know its in at least one of them that I saw people discussing what they'd heard from Dell.

I'm not much of a fan of this review either.

They seem to think teh NEC is negatively priced...well, it's got component, S-video, & composite inputs, speakers, & is still the best display of those three, so yeah it's gonna cost more...

For those who keep whing about the Opticlear, i still don't understand.

There's more glare & reflection issues with CRTs, yet i don't hear people whining about that...

The CRT glare isn't quite as bad actually, but in any case I think these Opticlear/Xbrite/etc. screens look so much better than any normal LCD that it's worth trying to lower your ambient light conditions for them. Not only do they increase the perceived contrast in the daytime, but they also mostly get rid of that grainy/glittering look (screen door effect) that other LCDs have and give the whole image more of a smooth, CRT-like look. It's a pity that apart from the coating, most of them have crappy panels otherwise with the actual black levels being pretty weak (which would be noticeable in a dark room). This 20WMGX2 seems to be the only one with a good panel and it's rather expensive.

Does anyone know what Acer's "Crystalbright" thing is? Is that the same coating? Their AL2032WA monitor advertises this and has a much lower price, so it may be worth a look.

I wish the review also included the Viewsonic 2025wm. The NEC is already out of the running for me on cost alone, and the glossy coating.

I managed to see the Viewsonic next to the NEC...the Viewsonic's colors were just as vibrant as the NEC, even taking into consideration the NECs screen coating.

The toss up for me is between the Viewsonic and the Dell.

I don't know what's up with that webpage, but my 20WMGX2 has both a tv tuner and coax input. I can watch TV (via cable) just fine. I use the built-in speakers (detachable) to listen to the TV sound, while whatever PC game I'm playing comes through the PC soundcard. It works like a champ.

I like the Opticlear coating - it's a matter of personal preference for sure. I found the glare on my CRT more annoying actually, as it made the colors seem very washed out.

Anyhow, the 20WMGX2 most definitely has a tv tuner.
