DELL 2005fp a solid product?

It seems the 2001fp was pretty reliable, but have still read quite a few horror stories.. More than the norm.

As for the 2005fp it seems like just about everyone has a backlight bleeding issue..

If not that, MULTIPLE dead pixels.

I would love to pick one up, but I also don't feel like going through 3 or 4 replacments.

This is a good thread..

Dell 2005fp

I just bought one... no dead pixels... and I don't know what backlight bleeding is but it doesn't seem to have any problems.

I would lhighly recommend this monitor.

I may be out of line since I haven't kept up with monitors in a while. But I believe that it's normal to hear complaints about defects from a lot of people when that monitor is so damn popular. You'll find 2,3,4 times as many people who have received perfect monitors. It seems like the internet hypes products up or makes people worry about things when they shouldn't.

Ahhh.. this seems to be a little be more than normal..

Granted LCD"s are typically never PERFECT, this one seems to have more issues than not..

I still plan on getting one.

😀

Yes mine does do that, though its no where near as obvious as that guys picture. I have to move my head and look from an angle to really notice it.

The top right is worse than the bottom left... odd thing is it seems to be getting better. I noticed it when i first got it, and now it isn't nearly as bad...

Maybe the backlight needs some time to warm up or something?

haha...mine is coming on monday 🙂

My first had the backlight problem and 5 stuck pixels.

My second has the backlight problem but not as bad as the first. It also has 3 stuck pixels and the lower right part of the framing where the buttons are is loose. It will also be sent back.

Wow,

They definitely had a bad batch. This is definitely more than normal.

hypotheical= If the only people who owned a 2005fp posted in that thread then I would have a greater concern. If something works people don't complain. The extraverts will only rant and rave. The think that puts an ace in my back pocket is the fact that even though people do have problems they are able to send them back and get something else. Now, when that starts not being the case then DELL will have a problem. Hard for me to imagine the volume of these lcd's that have been produced and yet people are still sucking them up.

I get mine the end of the week

have a great day!!

So should I return my for a replacement... the lighting is nowhere near as bad as the picture in that other thread and I have none stuck or dead pixels at all.

I think I'll try watching a dvd and see if it is annoying.

I was deciding between a 2001FP, 2005FPW, or a NEC/Mitsubishi 22" AG CRT. After examining everything, and considering I had the room, I went with the CRT.

1600 x 1200 @ 100hz, 2048 x 1536 @ 85hz
No dead pixels, ghosting, or "screen door effect" to worry about

It will last me awhile, and I'll wait on LCD's to get bigger, faster, and cheaper.

🙂

HOw much did you pay?

2048x1536 is awesome @ 85hz..

I have the Sony 21" CRT which is still in good shape. Figure I can get at least $200 for it.

It does 1600x1200 @ 85hz..

Still want WS

With the Dell coupons, it was essentially the same price for me for all three of my choices. It was ~$550 shipped...I got in on the Dell free shipping too which is important when your shipping wieght is 78lbs. 😉

Edit:

This is the one I got...

But now you got to worry about stuff like geometry, convergence, and moire. 😉 Not to mention you need very good VGA card to get crisp 2D in analog at high resolutions.

NEC 2141 is very good choice. I had a hard time choosing between the NEC 2141 and Sony G520P. I went with the Sony but it was a touch decision and basically a coin flip.
