How much harder is it to deliver 85 pizzas at once instead of 2 or 3? Sure a few more minutes of walking back into a car. But since his car was full for one trip, it's not like he's spending a bunch of extra gas delivering the same amount of pizzas all over his city.

Yah it's nice to get 10-20% tip, but it's unrealistic every time to expect that. $10 might be a little low, but I wouldn't be tipping $40 or $50 bucks either. I MIGHT have gone as high as $20 personally. But complaining about $10? Fuck no. If he had been stiffed then I would certainly understand the complaining.

I know a bunch of people would be HAPPY to have received $10 for 5 minutes worth of work. Fucking ingrate.

Want to get paid well, go to school, don't expect automatic extra pay because you think you deserve it for bringing someone food or filling their water glass, something that's in your basic job description. Tipping even for crappy service is even more laughable. You letting them make you think they don't get paid minimum wage is also funny since every single one in the country by law has to. I'd rather tip the trash man since they actually do a job that most of us would not want to do but for some reason you guys seem fit not to.

Lol what? I always tip based on service. I start around 20% and go up from that for excellent performance above and beyond, and below for shit service. I've been in the industry and have worked my ass off for tips a night. I would not be complaining like a pussy on the internet on $10 for unloading all my pizza's for one trip to a single house. I understand a bit of the frustration, as if I was in his shoes I would have liked to have had a bigger tip. Who doesn't like more money? But I wouldn't be a whiner about it in public about it.

Unless its changed since I delivered, they are paid an hourly wage + per delivery. When I was working at Pizza Hut, it was 75 cents per delivery. That more than covered gas for each delivery, especially when you deliver more than one home per trip.

A waiter/tress provides, or should be providing, fairly constant service.

Yep. Hourly wage that is not "tip" hourly wage + delivery fee and gas costs. That is what they always get. The tips are literally a bonus. A pizza delivery person for most of the chain restaurants are making more than minimum wage for a basic service job. I still know some delivery drivers and they make $9.75 an hour + tips. So $2.50 over min wage and decent tips. Usually about $30-$60 average a night. Special nights like Superbowl they make a few hundred sometimes. Again, I know people literally making minimum wage that would LOVE to trade jobs with them. Crying over a $10 tip is stupid.

Had busted my ass for a group of people that had a $600 bar tab. They had been at my table for 7 hours. I got nothing for it. First time working for those customers so I had no idea they would stiff. I busted my ass, and even gave up two other tables so I could focus better on them. Even tossed in a free round out of my pocket since they seemed like they would be tipping decently. Was my hope. But got shafted. Now THAT sucks balls. THAT was a dick move by them. Until this idiot pizza driver experiences a dick move like that, he needs to enjoy his fucking $10 tip and move on.

On weekends, I'd generally go home with about $100 in cash for the night. Not bad for 6 hours of work usually.

The pizzeria owner/manager was also derelict for not automatically tacking on an appropriate delivery charge or gratuity. That's what restaurants do when you book a large party or banquet on a single tab.

I'd like to see an undercover investigation involving this. Through a hidden camera see a guy hock some saliva in a customer's pizza and put on the nightly news. And the restaurant is forced to close because nobody will ever go there [or any of their franchises] again. Doesn't take much for word of mouth with fast food types.

Exactly, I worked as a waiter for many years but this whole "you have to tip" thing is just dumb. It is highway robbery that they can get away with paying waiters less than minimum wage but this really needs to be up to the free market. If you don't want to make $2.15 an hour, dont.

I despise the concept of tipping, the expectation of even more money after paying the original price. And this is coming from a guy who worked 7+ years as a waiter, as one of the ones who survived off the tipping system.

It's only really been in the past couple of years that I've turned so bitter towards the idea of tipping, but I do think that we as a society would be much better off if we did away with it and simply charged prices to reflect living wages for the workers. Would prices go up? Yes and no, they are already higher as it is due to the expected payout at the end of the meal. Unfortunately instead of going away, the idea seems to be spreading and even more service workers are wanting a tip.

Always thought the tipping culture in the USA was retarded. If you raise the prices slightly (not really needed with $17 dollar pizzas in this case) you can pay your employees a decent wage, and the customers can still tip if they decide they were served exceptionally well. But an asshole customer has already paid the wages of the one serving him and you avoid people 'demanding a tip'.

If you'd have your house renovated for a fixed price and the builder would start demanding you'd pay 15% more as a 'tip' for him claiming the building company doesn't pay that well and he's therefor entitled to it, would you accept that? Or would you contact a lawyer?

Tipping as a concept exists almost everywhere, it is this American "oh you have to tip at least 20% to workers "A" "B" and "D" but don't tip person "C" and people "E" through "Z" never get tips" that is utter bullshit.

Decide upon a reasonable minimum wage and make tipping completely optional. Your current system is just a sneaky way to advertise prices lower than reality.

How much harder is it to wait on 1 customer than on say 5 or 6? Sure, a few more minutes of walking back and forth when bringing out the food, but to check on drinks and refill where needed is one trip regardless of number of people.

Probably are just as retarded to not understand the concept of why tipping is commonplace in the first place, plus probably have zero knowledge in how the concept of tipped positions for employees help keep the cost of goods and services down that you choose to participate in.

Great thing about it all is that its up to you one wether to tip or not.

Bet you would also like the idea of having the price of all meals / services that revolve around tipped positions raise in price in leu of having a choice to tip, thus making it cost much more for you in the long run and you no longer have have a choice.
