It's a shit job, expect shit money.

You people expecting to get rich off being a delivery boy or server make me laugh. Want to get paid well, go to school, don't expect automatic extra pay because you think you deserve it for bringing someone food or filling their water glass, something that's in your basic job description. Tipping even for crappy service is even more laughable. You letting them make you think they don't get paid minimum wage is also funny since every single one in the country by law has to. I'd rather tip the trash man since they actually do a job that most of us would not want to do but for some reason you guys seem fit not to.

Tipping is normal, a person you described should expect a tip, because it's normal. And depending on where you're a waiter at, you can make bank. I bet the waitresses at Donnovans make more than 95% of the people on here who have 4 year degrees. I tipped her $100 last time I went and she was waiting on 3 other tables in the area at the same time which all had much larger parties than the one I was at. If she worked a full shift there no way she made less than a g that night.

Bottom line is you can bitch all you want, if you don't tip you eat a lot of other people's spit. Just the way it is.

Only in the USA, where people have willfully bent over to the blackmail perpetuated by lower/middle class citizens and the businesses that exploit their customer's fear. If you think that's a valid argument to support the practice, you could use it to support any violent act.

It's 2013, bro. Flipping burgers and mopping floors entitles you to a Rolls and beach house. Productive labor is just as archaic as productive capital.

"The rule of thumb is that you should always tip when someone is bringing you a product or service where manual labor is involved," says Lynn. "For example, movers, food and drink delivery people, restaurant servers, house cleaners, salon workers, and hotel maids. These are also situations where you can measure the immediate value of the work, unlike say, a car mechanic or doctor where their services are more abstract and assessed over time."

Rule of thumb is to tip people that needs the tip to survive doing their job or if you feel that their service deserved a tip to show that you are pleased with them.

I like to think for myself instead of doing what others do.

Sorry girl but you are wrong in this respect.

The order was almost $1500. Of course the tip should've been at least 100. If you were in a restaurant and ordered a $500 bottle of wine, you would be expected to tip 20% on it, even though the server brought it in one trip.

LoL sorry but I don't tip 20% on alcohol. A dollar for just bringing a $500 bottle of wine is what I would do, $2-5 dollars depending on how much the waiter helped me pick the bottle of wine.

I'd wager it's much more work if you spend $100 at Denny's vs a "nice" restaurant. The average plate cost at Denny's is <$10 vs $30+ depending on where you go.

In any case, I absolutely do not tip solely on percentages, especially while alcohol is a portion of the bill. $10-$15 for a single drink adds up fast. So I subtract alcohol & tax, then tip 15-20% of that, then add roughly $1 per drink which is fair IMHO. If there is a sommelier then I tip them separately based on their recommendation.

So for a $150 tab with 4 drinks (~$40) I'd tip between $20 and $25 for 2 people which is reasonable.

Wow someone reasonable that uses critical thinking.

Waaah. Poor delivery guy only got $10 tax-free cash income in addition to his wages. That's $10 more than all sorts of other minimum wage jobs.

Tax free if you are not completely honest about your income when doing taxes. Which is true in the case of most people that live on cash tips.

Not true at all. Bars and restaurants get audits. While a server might not claim all tips, its often close to what is actually made. Also, you're an assclown.

I go to places that have food are delicious and safe to eat. I agree that restaurant setting and the mood that setting creates does have an effect on some people.

I don't feel the need to tip 20% for wine, but I will definitely tip for service as well as how much I expect the server to tip-out based on their service.

AFAIK servers don't tip-out on alcohol so there's no need to compensate for that purchase. Correct me if I'm wrong.

By the way you idiot, reread my post and try to understand the other way it could have been comprehended, which is that most people who live on cash tips don't report their entire tip amount. Which is what I meant, even though I might not be clear about it.

You basically just agree with my statement in your defense by being ignorant of the meanings behind a sentence, which is why I called you an idiot.

BTW have fun with fucking yourself in the ass with a dildo. Remember to use lube or it might be painful.

I bet you don't have the balls to tell your server ahead of time of your tipping theory you cheap fuck. If you wanna save money on wine, drink it at home.

What's your bet in $? I will take it depending on the amount. It should be enough to be worth my time and effort.

We will put your money in escrow as well as my money. Who wins will be based on the final result. We will also include a deadline to the bet, after which you will get the money automatically.

Proof? I don't trust the word of a proven idiot; an idiot that doesn't know how to argue properly.

What the fuck are you even talking about assclown? Servers generally tip out on their entire check. How do I know this? I worked in bars/restaurants for five years. How can I present a proper argument when you're throwing out absolute feces to begin with? And I'd love to hear your proof that I'm an idiot. Laughing at you makes me feel warm inside.

And no, I'm not salty that you're a cheapskate, and I never got salty with cheapskate customers. For every asshole out there, someone awesome would come in and make up for it. We'd average around 25% in tips where I worked. Luckily most people are not assholes.

Tallbill, you are a coward for one. Definitely not intelligent for two because you cannot figure out, even with all the time you have on forums to compose your thoughts, why I called you an idiot.

I don't care what you have to say about anything, I don't believe it either unless I get proof from other sources. I won't look it up myself because I just don't care to spend the effort required.

I've worked in the pizza industry (mostly part time) for 28 years. We had many orders that size every year. $20 is reasonable. The delivery guy (generally) doesn't do shit other than carry those pizzas out to the car & drive. Though, with huge orders, the guys in the shop who busted their asses having 75 pizzas ready at roughly the same time will expect to split the tip with the driver.

I'd much rather tips the cooks.

I worked at a local pizza place for 6 months, and if there is one thing I took away (other than that the majority of people working there were severe drug addicts) from there was that the drivers got off easy.

You see, while we were continuously swamped in the kitchen the entire night, the majority of our drivers would joy-ride around town after a delivery or two, casually stroll back in with a big gulp, and then saunter back out into the night with another handful of deliveries. All the while, I'm standing hunched over some God forsaken countertop, face in the oven, covered in flower/sauce/who the hell knows what else, with barely a free moment to step outside to get some fresh air.

Other than the occasional sketchy customer, delivery personnel generally have it much easier than the cooks. That, and the service they provide me is minimal compared to that of a server in a restaurant.
