I've come across an opportunity to purchase an '84 trans am. It has 12k miles on it. The guy "wants" 10k for it. I don't particularly need the car, but I wouldn't mind dropping maybe 5k to drive around a mint white trash mobile. I don't exactly have any experience in an older car like this. I imagine most of the rubber bits will need replacing, guy says everything is pretty much mint though.

Also lol@150hp from a ~300cube V8.

Basically if anyone has any price points or things to look for I would appreciate it, this is uncharted territory for me.

Buy it and drop a .5 cubic inch 197hp Honda Civic Si Inline 4 in it to mock the trailer folks.

I think he thinks it is worth so much because it has no miles. Id get it to drive a retarded car for awhile. It seems like i shouldnt even get it as a joke though haha

nah, if the body is straight and interior is decent, you can drop a crate motor in there and tub it out. youd be stylin for less than 5k total.

Guess it must be regional but sub 1K fbodies are a dime a dozen here. I wouldn't give much more than $500 for a 3rd gen myself.

You can buy KITT!

If I had $10 - $15K to drop on a White trash Fire Chicken I'd go with a IROC Camaro or Formula 350.

T-Tops baby!

I still have to see the car, who knows what can happen. I think it is just straight black. It's also just some guy who has had the car forever so he thinks his pentium 1 100mhz car is still worth dealer price.

Use blue book as a negotiating baseline. Then subtract from that based on cost of repair of each problem you find. Haggle him down and tell him you will take care of it lol

My older brother had one with a 454. He modded the mounts and made it work. Still the scariest car I ever driven fast. Speed was terrifying in those things.

Not that scary but scary.

If this was about a Civic and people called it Rice, this thread would be 10 pages long in 10 minutes.

Anyway. His price is nuts. The car can be modded and be pretty decent. Look up LT1 swaps for 3rd gen F-bodys. Pretty easy. LS1 is possibly, but much more fab/money. Even an LT1 is a better starting point than a 305.

But a 305 and a boat load of spray makes for great fun for a short time! :D

a buddy of mine is putting a LT1SS into a 80 caprice classic he is rebuilding. its a frame up job. not sure why he picked it, but he has a vision for the final product.

I think many are mistaking the Gen II trans ams with this one. The bandit had a '77 Trans Am with the 455 big block in it! now that was an enginr, but you probably had to quote gallons per mile instead of mpg ;)
