I think many are mistaking the Gen II trans ams with this one. The bandit had a '77 Trans Am with the 455 big block in it! now that was an enginr, but you probably had to quote gallons per mile instead of mpg ;)

Sadly those 455 were trash too. Best way was to drop in something much better than try to get those right.

These cars were serious pieces of crap rattle trap bad design junk when brand new. The interiors are complete crap. I'm not saying my brand new 1985 Mustang GT was a whole lot better but it was definitely better, and faster.

Correct me if wrong but I think the last year for the 455 was 1976. Now the Bandit car may have been a specially built car, that I do not know, but it was definitely a 1977 so if factory it had either a 400 or 403 Oldsmobile engine. I am not a GM expert but I think I am close here.

400 small block i think.

anyway... i had a lot of fun in my 85 t/a ws6. I would buy one again for 2 grand that runs well. I bought it in Texas and drove it across the country, from TX to NC/TN and then back to Wyoming. a great road trip. sold it about 2 years ago when i bought my jeep.

one in perfect shape is worth 4 or 5 to someone who wants it. I love the 80'stastic interior, the flip up headlights, the overall look of the car.

think knight rider, not bandit.

the t/a body style is quite stable at high speed because of the amount of down force on the front wheels, with a well upgraded suspension and welded in frame connectors it is a really great car and amazingly stiff.

84 is throttle body right? the tpi cars started in 85 i believe. Tuneport is much, much better. multiport, bank fire FI. you can upgrade to the 350 injectors and get some more horse for cheap.

Sounds like it's not really worth it assuming the guy probably won't drop below 5 or 6k.
